Origin Storage 8GB DDR4-3200 SO-DIMM — laptop memory upgrade, single rank, 1.2V
8GB DDR4-3200260-pin SO-DIMM1Rx16 · Non-ECC1.2V
The Origin Storage OM8G43200SO1RX16NE12 is an 8GB DDR4 SO-DIMM laptop memory module rated at 3200MHz, built for business laptops, mini PCs and all-in-ones that take standard DDR4 SO-DIMM modules. It is a single-rank (1Rx16), non-ECC, unbuffered module running at the standard DDR4 voltage of 1.2V.
Origin Storage is a UK memory and storage specialist that supplies fleet upgrades to IT departments. This module is the practical choice when a laptop ships with 8GB and needs to reach 16GB, when a failed module has to be replaced, or when a batch of identical machines needs the same part in quantity.
Before you order: This is a laptop SO-DIMM (260-pin, about 69.6 mm long). It does not fit desktop DIMM slots, and it only helps if your laptop has a free or replaceable DDR4 SO-DIMM slot — many thin laptops have memory soldered to the mainboard.
What's in the Box
- 1 x Origin Storage 8GB DDR4-3200 SO-DIMM module (OM8G43200SO1RX16NE12)
- No screws, tools or software are needed — SO-DIMM slots use spring clips
What It Means in Practice
- 8GB + 8GB: add this to a laptop that already has one 8GB DDR4 module and you get 16GB in dual-channel mode, which also improves integrated-graphics performance.
- If your laptop CPU supports a lower DDR4 speed (for example 2666 or 2933MHz), the module simply runs at the speed the platform allows — DDR4 is backward compatible within the generation.
- Single rank, x16 chips: Origin positions 1Rx16 as the cost-efficient configuration for large-scale rollouts. Matching the rank of the module already in the laptop is the safest way to keep dual channel stable.
- Installation takes a few minutes: power off, disconnect the battery if the manual says so, open the base cover, insert at an angle and press down until the clips lock.
What Will Not Work
- DDR3, DDR5 or LPDDR laptops — the notch and pin layout are different; the module physically will not seat.
- Desktop PCs — they use the longer 288-pin DIMM; see the UDIMM version instead.
- Laptops with memory soldered to the board and no SO-DIMM slot (common in ultrabooks and recent MacBooks).
- Servers or workstations that require ECC or registered (RDIMM) memory.
Key Features
8GB DDR4 at 3200MHz
The highest standard JEDEC DDR4 speed; runs lower automatically on older platforms.
Single rank 1Rx16
Cost-efficient layout aimed at fleet upgrades and replacement of failed modules.
Standard 1.2V
No special BIOS profile needed — the laptop reads the SPD and configures it.
Long manufacturer term
Origin Storage lists a 20-year warranty period for this module.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I mix it with the module already in my laptop?
Usually yes, if the existing module is also DDR4 SO-DIMM. The pair runs at the speed of the slower module. For the most predictable dual-channel result, match capacity (8GB) and rank (single rank).
Will it make my laptop faster?
If you are running out of memory (many browser tabs, Teams plus Office, large spreadsheets), going from 8GB to 16GB removes the slowdown caused by swapping to disk. If you already have plenty of free memory, extra RAM will not change much.
How do I check which memory my laptop takes?
The laptop manual or the maker’s spec page lists the memory type and maximum. Send us the exact model number and we will check it for you.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
An 8GB DDR4-3200 SO-DIMM is the most common laptop upgrade we fit: it turns an 8GB machine into a 16GB dual-channel one at low cost. The only real risk is ordering for a laptop that has soldered memory or a different DDR generation, so check the slot first. Browse our
memory (RAM) range for other capacities and desktop modules.
✓ Buy it if your laptop has a free or replaceable DDR4 SO-DIMM slot and you want 16GB total or a like-for-like replacement.
✕ Skip it if your laptop uses DDR5 or soldered memory, or you need a desktop DIMM.
→ Also consider Origin Storage 8GB DDR4-3200 UDIMM (OM8G43200U1RX16NE12) for desktops, or the DDR5-5600 SO-DIMM (OM8G55600SO1RX16NE11) for newer laptops.
Not sure it fits? Send us your laptop model and we will confirm the memory type and slot count before you order.
