The Good Connections OS2 singlemode fiber optic patch cable connects an LC port to another LC port over 5 m of 9/125 µm simplex fibre with APC-polished ends, made for the FTTH/FTTB/FTTO termination points, ONTs, splitters and APC patch panels.
It suits IT technicians and installers who need a patch run between racks or rooms on an OS2 link — OS2 singlemode is the fibre used for building backbones, campus links and provider hand-offs.
Before you order: Both ends are APC (angled, usually green). APC must only mate with APC — plugging it into a UPC (blue) port or coupler gives high loss and can damage the end faces. Check that your ONT, splitter or patch panel is LC/APC before you order.

What It Means in Practice
- One fibre only (simplex): one cable per port — typical for BiDi optics, GPON/FTTH drops and test connections. A duplex link needs two of these or a duplex cable.
- OS2 singlemode is rated for 1000BASE-LX and 10GBASE-LR links up to 10 km, and longer with the matching optics; at 5 m the cable length never limits the link — the transceivers do.
- 5 m is the cable length end to end. Measure the route first, including vertical runs and cable management, and allow some slack for bends.
- Minimum bend radius is 7.5 mm — tidy it with soft velcro ties, never with tight plastic cable ties.
- Jacket colour helps you identify the fibre at a glance in a busy rack: yellow (or white on armoured cables) marks singlemode; this cable is yellow.
- To extend a run, join two cables with an LC/APC coupler of the same fibre type; every joint adds about 0.3 dB of loss, so on short links it does not matter, but a single longer cable is always cleaner.
What Will Not Work
- It will not work with multimode transceivers (SX/SR, 850 nm) or on a multimode (OM1–OM5) backbone — singlemode and multimode cannot be mixed.
- It does not fit SC/ST/MPO/MTP ports — check the connector on both devices.
- It does not mate with UPC (blue) connectors or couplers — APC only.
- It does not plug into copper RJ45 ports — a switch needs an SFP/SFP+ slot with a fiber transceiver, or a media converter.
- A single simplex cable does not make a standard duplex link (separate Tx and Rx) — use two cables or a duplex cord.

In a rack we recommend ordering one spare jumper per link type and labelling both ends — it turns a midnight outage into a two-minute swap.
