PLANET GT-1205A — Gigabit Media Converter with Two SFP Slots
1x RJ45 + 2x SFPFibre redundancy5V adapter includedChassis-ready
The PLANET GT-1205A is a desktop Gigabit media converter with one 10/100/1000BASE-T RJ45 port and two 100/1000BASE-X SFP slots, for offices, server rooms and telecom closets that link buildings or floors over fibre.
A side DIP switch selects how the two SFP slots behave: as a small 3-port switch (default) or as a 2-port fibre redundancy pair, where a backup fibre takes over automatically when the primary link fails and hands back when it recovers. The unit is unmanaged and ships with its own 5V power adapter.
Before you order: SFP modules are not included, and both slots run at the same speed — a rear DIP switch sets them to 1000X (default) or 100FX together, so you cannot mix a 100FX and a 1000X module.
What's in the Box
- GT-1205A media converter
- AC-DC power adapter (5V DC, 2A max)
- User manual
What It Means in Practice
- Copper side: one RJ45 at 10/100/1000 Mbps with auto MDI/MDI-X.
- Fibre side: two SFP slots for multimode (SX, up to 550 m or 2 km depending on module) or single-mode (LX, 10–120 km) — the module decides the reach.
- After changing the 100FX/1000X DIP switch, power-cycle the converter.
- Many links in one place: the GT-1205A slides into PLANET MC-700 or MC-1500 converter chassis; wall mount is built in and DIN-rail needs the optional RKE-DIN kit.
What Will Not Work
- It does not work without SFP modules, and the module at the far end must match in fibre type and wavelength.
- It cannot run one slot at 100 Mbps and the other at 1 Gbps.
- It is rated for 0–50°C — not for outdoor cabinets or factory floors; use the industrial IGT-1205AT there.
- No PoE output and no management interface.

Frequently Asked Questions
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
The GT-1205A is the sensible choice when a building-to-building fibre link matters enough to run a second fibre, but the location is a normal indoor comms room. For factory or outdoor cabinets the industrial IGT-1205AT does the same job at -40 to 75°C. If the remote end needs several copper ports, pair the converter with one of our industrial and desktop switches.
✓ Buy it if you want an indoor Gigabit fibre link with an optional backup fibre path and a power adapter in the box.
✕ Skip it if you need different speeds on the two SFP slots, PoE, or an industrial temperature range.
→ Also consider PLANET GT-805A for a single SFP link, or IGT-1205AT for industrial sites.
