PLANET VC-231GP PoE+ Ethernet to VDSL2 Converter — Data and Power at the Remote End
PoE+ 802.3at · 30 WVDSL2 · G.vectoringRJ11 · up to 1.4 kmCO / CPE selectable
The PLANET VC-231GP carries Ethernet over an ordinary telephone pair using VDSL2 and adds an IEEE 802.3at PoE+ output (up to 30 W) on its RJ45 port. Placed at the remote end of a phone line, it can power and connect an IP camera, access point or IP phone without a separate PoE injector — the classic case being a camera at a gate, car park or outbuilding that has an old telephone line but no network cable.
A DIP switch sets each unit to CO (network side) or CPE (remote side). As with any VDSL2 link, throughput depends on the line: highest on short runs, lower as distance grows up to the 1.4 km maximum.
Before you order: You need a pair — this unit plus a second VC-231GP or a VC-231G set to the opposite mode (or a VDSL2 DSLAM). PoE is delivered only to the device on this unit’s RJ45 port; it does not power the unit at the other end of the phone line. Speeds fall with distance: PLANET quotes about 150/150 Mbps at 300 m and about 21/11 Mbps at 1.4 km.
What's in the Box
- 1 × PLANET VC-231GP PoE+ Ethernet to VDSL2 converter
- 1 × AC-DC power adapter (54 V DC, 0.74 A)
- 1 × splitter
- 1 × RJ11 telephone wire
- 1 × user’s manual
What It Means in Practice
- Typical job: VC-231G (CO) at the office switch → existing phone pair → VC-231GP (CPE) at the gate → PoE camera on its RJ45 port.
- PoE+: IEEE 802.3at/af end-span, pins 1/2 (+) and 3/6 (−), up to 30 W, reach up to 100 m from the unit.
- VDSL2 with G.vectoring and G.INP; DIP switches select CO/CPE (default CPE) and, on the CO unit, line settings.
- Included splitter allows a telephone to share the line.
- Metal wall-mount case; extra PoE-in-use LED alongside power, VDSL and link LEDs.
What Will Not Work
- Powering the far-end converter over the phone line — each unit needs its own adapter.
- Devices that need 802.3bt or more than 30 W.
- Gigabit throughput over the phone line — VDSL2 speed depends on distance.
- Lines longer than 1.4 km.
- Use as a modem for an internet provider’s VDSL service.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I pair it with a VC-231G?
Yes — one unit in CO mode and one in CPE mode. Put the VC-231GP at the end where the PoE device is.
Does it power the unit at the other end?
No. Each converter needs its own power adapter; PoE goes only to the device on the VC-231GP RJ45 port.
Will it run a PTZ camera?
Only if the camera needs 30 W (802.3at) or less.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
For a camera or AP where only a telephone line arrives, this unit removes the need for a separate injector at the remote end. Pair it with a VC-231G at the network side and estimate the line length first — it decides the speed. If you can run new cable, standard
network cables with a PoE switch are faster and simpler.
✓ Buy it if you need data and PoE+ at a remote point reached only by a telephone pair.
✕ Skip it if you can run network cable or fiber, or the device needs more than 30 W.
→ Also consider PLANET VC-231G (without PoE, for the network side) or a PoE media converter over fiber.
Tell us the line length and the device you want to power, and we will confirm the pair and expected speed before you order.
