PNY Attaché 4 — 1 TB USB 3.1 Capless Flash Drive
1 TB capacityCapless sliding collarUSB 3.1 Type-ABackward compatible to USB 2.0
The PNY Attaché 4 3.1 (FD1TBATT431KK-EF) is a 1 TB USB Type-A flash drive with a sliding collar instead of a cap, so there is nothing to lose. At 53.8 mm long it holds as much as a small external hard disk in something that fits a coin pocket, and it is priced as bulk storage rather than as fast storage. The section immediately below explains what that means in practice, because on this drive the write speed is the specification that decides whether it suits you.
Compatibility — check before buying:
PNY publishes up to 80 MB/s read and up to 20 MB/s write for the Attaché 4 3.1, and it publishes that single figure across the whole range from 16 GB to 1 TB — there is no separate rating for the 1 TB. Twenty megabytes a second is the number to think about before you order: filling this drive is measured in hours, not minutes, and copying a large video file onto it will feel slow. It is excellent as a cheap place to park a lot of data that you write once and read many times; it is the wrong drive for a working folder you rewrite daily or for editing off. If you need speed at this capacity, a portable SSD such as the Patriot Viper PVP30 or the Silicon Power DS72 is a different class of product entirely and we can quote either. This is also a USB Type-A drive: it will not fit a USB-C-only laptop or phone without an adapter. On warranty, PNY’s own sources disagree — see the warranty note in the specification table below.
Best For
✓ Archiving photo and video libraries
✓ A cheap second copy of important folders
✓ Carrying a large media collection
✓ Loading films onto a TV or car system
✓ Handing over a big dataset once
✓ Machines that still have USB-A ports
Key Features
1 TB in a 53.8 mm body
A terabyte of storage without a case, a cable or a power supply, in something 53.8 x 19.5 x 9.5 mm. For archive and transport that is the whole appeal.
Capless sliding collar
The connector slides out of the housing rather than sitting under a cap. Nothing to lose, nothing to snap, and the contacts stay covered in a bag.
Read at 80 MB/s, write at 20
PNY publishes both figures, and we print both. Reading is comfortable for playback and copying off the drive; writing is slow, which is why this is an archive drive rather than a working one.
Works on anything with a USB-A port
No software, no drivers, no setup. Windows, macOS, Linux, smart TVs, car head units and consoles that read USB storage will all see it as a disk.

Singular Expert Insight
A terabyte on a flash drive at this price sounds too good until you read the write speed, so we will put it plainly: 20 MB/s. That is the single most important thing on this page. It makes the Attaché 4 a genuinely useful archive and transport drive — dump a photo library on it once, keep it in a drawer as a second copy, carry a film collection to a holiday house — and a frustrating one if you try to work off it. The capless sliding collar is the other reason people come back to this line; caps are how flash drives die, and PNY sorted that out years ago. The last thing to know is the warranty, where PNY contradicts itself between its product page and its own warranty schedule. We would rather tell you that than quietly print the longer of the two numbers.
Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
You want a terabyte of cheap, capless USB-A storage to write once and read often — archives, media libraries, a second copy of a photo collection.
Skip it if
You will rewrite the drive regularly or copy large files onto it often — 20 MB/s write makes that painful — or your machines are USB-C only.
Also consider
Silicon Power DS72 or Patriot Viper PVP30 if you need portable SSD write speeds at this capacity, or the 512 GB Transcend JetFlash 920 for a fast flash drive at 400 MB/s write.
