Poly MDA100 QD — One Headset, Desk Phone and Computer
RJ9 to the desk phoneUSB to the computerQuick Disconnect headset portMute with status indicator
The Poly MDA100 QD, HP part number 8A7E1AA, is an analogue headset switch. One Quick Disconnect headset plugs into it, the desk phone connects on RJ9 and the computer on USB, and a button on the unit switches which one you are listening to. It is the practical answer for an office moving from desk phones to softphones where both still have to work — and it keeps the QD headsets you already own.
Compatibility — check before buying:
A headset is not included. The MDA100 QD is the switch only; it works with Poly Quick Disconnect headsets — EncorePro 700 and 500 Series, SupraPlus and Entera — and those are bought separately. That is the single most common ordering mistake with this part. There is no volume control on this model. Volume is adjusted on the phone or the computer; the MDA105 QD is the version that adds a manual volume dial. A 6-position configuration switch matches the unit to your desk phone’s audio characteristics, and Poly lists all major desk-phone models supported by Plantronics Hub — if your phone has no dedicated headset port, send us the model and we will check it first. Note also that Poly publishes no power requirement and supplies no power adapter; the only powered connection on the unit is the USB link to the computer.
Best For
✓ Offices running desk phones and softphones side by side
✓ Migrations to Teams or Zoom where the desk phone stays
✓ Sites with existing Poly QD headsets worth keeping
✓ Contact centres standardising on one headset per agent
✓ Desks where two headsets is one headset too many
✓ Phased rollouts that need both worlds working at once
Key Features
One headset, two audio sources
Desk phone on RJ9, computer on USB, and an easy-access source switch between them. The agent wears one headset and answers whichever rings.
Mute with a visual status indicator
A dedicated mute button on the unit with a light that tells you the state at a glance — no wondering whether the phone or the softphone holds the mute.
Six-position configuration switch
Matches the unit to the audio characteristics of your particular desk phone, which is what makes a single adapter work across a mixed estate of handsets.
Built to sit on a desk
A non-slip base and a 10-foot coil cable to the headset, so the unit stays where you put it and the agent can move back from the desk.

Singular Expert Insight
This is a migration tool, and a good one. The situation it solves is common in Cyprus offices right now: the desk phones still work, the company is moving to Teams or Zoom, and nobody wants agents wearing two headsets or unplugging cables all day. One QD headset, one switch, both worlds. Two things to be clear about at order time. It does not include a headset, and it does not have a volume dial — the MDA105 QD is the one with volume. Also worth knowing: HP’s current Poly catalogue lists the newer MDA500 QD series and no longer lists the MDA100, so treat this as mature inventory and buy the quantity you need for the project rather than planning around long-term availability. If you are buying headsets at the same time, our office and VoIP headsets range covers the QD models this pairs with.
Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
Your desks have both a phone and a computer, you already own or are buying Poly QD headsets, and you want one headset to cover both without replugging.
Skip it if
You want a volume dial on the adapter — that is the MDA105 QD — or your users have no desk phone at all, in which case a plain USB headset is simpler and cheaper.
Also consider
A Poly EncorePro 500 or 700 Series QD headset to go with it, and the MDA105 QD instead if a volume control on the unit matters.
