How to choose a POS receipt printer
- Software first. Check that your POS software supports the printer model and interface. Epson TM, Star TSP and BIXOLON SRP models are supported by most systems.
- Paper width. 80 mm is the standard for shop and restaurant receipts; 58 mm suits compact counters and mobile printers. Some models take both. Use the roll diameter the printer specifies.
- Thermal or impact. Thermal printers are fast, quiet and need no ink. Impact (dot-matrix) printers with ribbon are used in hot kitchens and where two-ply copies are needed.
- Interface. USB for a single till, Ethernet or Wi-Fi to share the printer or print orders to the kitchen, Bluetooth or USB-C for tablets and phones. An auto cutter saves time at busy counters.
- Cash drawer and power. Most receipt printers open the cash drawer through an RJ-11 port. Cyprus uses UK three-pin sockets, so check the supplied power cord.
