The QNAP QXG-2G2T-I225 is a dual-port 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet expansion card with two RJ45 ports and an Intel Ethernet Controller I225-LM, for QNAP NAS units and Windows or Linux PCs that need faster wired networking over existing copper cabling.
Each port negotiates 2.5G, 1G, 100M or 10M, so it works with today’s 1GbE switch and moves to 2.5GbE when the switch is upgraded. It uses a compact PCIe 2.0 x2 interface and fits low-profile and full-height slots.
Before you order: For 2.5 Gbps you need a switch or router port that supports 2.5GbE; on a 1GbE switch the card runs at 1G. Wake-on-LAN works only on the first port and is not supported by QTS on QNAP NAS.

What It Means in Practice
- 2.5GbE over the Cat5e cabling most offices already have — no rewiring needed for 2.5G.
- Two ports: one to the switch and one direct to a PC or backup NAS, or both to the switch for failover.
- A simple speed upgrade for NAS units whose built-in ports are 1GbE.
- On Windows 10 (1809+) the card works with in-box or Intel drivers; Linux kernels 4.20 and newer include the driver.
What Will Not Work
- 10GbE — the maximum is 2.5 Gbps per port.
- SFP or fibre modules — RJ45 copper only.
- Wake-on-LAN on a QNAP NAS (QTS does not support it) or on the second port.
- A NAS or PC without a free PCIe slot.
