The QNAP TRX-10GITSFPP-SR is a 10GbE SFP+ optical transceiver of the SR type, running at 850 nm over multimode fibre for up to 300 m. QNAP sells it for the 10GbE SFP+ ports of its NAS units, network cards and switches, typically to link a NAS to the core switch inside the same building or server room. In practice, multimode optics are the cheaper choice for links inside one building: most server rooms and floor risers already carry OM3 or OM4 fibre, and the module plus a short patch cord is all a port needs. Before you order, check the fibre grade printed on the cable jacket and the real length of the run, including patch panels.
Compatibility — check before buying:
This is a multimode SR optic: it will not work on single-mode fibre, and the far end must be another 10GBASE-SR module. QNAP publishes the 300 m reach without naming the fibre grade; on older OM1/OM2 fibre expect much less, so tell us what is in your walls. It needs a 10G SFP+ port. Keep the dust cap on until you connect the fibre, and clean both connector ends before every mating — dirt is the most common cause of a link that will not come up. Not sure?
