The ICY BOX IB-PCI208-HS from RaidSonic is a PCIe expansion card that carries one M.2 NVMe SSD, for machines that have run out of M.2 slots or never had one. It runs at PCIe 4.0 x4 — up to 64 Gbit/s of host bandwidth — and is backward compatible with PCIe 3.0 and 2.0 slots, where the drive simply runs at that slot’s speed. An aluminium heatsink with two thermal pads is part of the package rather than an option, and because the card carries a single socket it needs no PCIe bifurcation support from the motherboard: any free x4 or larger slot will do. Full-height and low-profile brackets are both supplied, along with a screw set and a small screwdriver.
Compatibility — check before buying:
M-key NVMe drives only. RaidSonic publishes support for M.2 NVMe SSDs with an M-key edge; an M.2 SATA drive (B+M key) is not listed and will not work in a PCIe socket, because a SATA module needs a SATA controller rather than PCIe lanes. Supported lengths are 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280, and double-sided modules are explicitly supported. RaidSonic publishes a maximum capacity of 2 TB and lists Windows as the supported operating system. The host needs one free PCIe 4.0 x4 slot or larger; no bifurcation setting is required, since there is only one drive on the card. Booting from the drive depends on your motherboard firmware rather than on the card — tell us the board model and we will check whether NVMe boot is supported on it.

PCIe 4.0 x4, with room to fall back
The card is rated PCIe 4.0 x4 for up to 64 Gbit/s, and drops cleanly into PCIe 3.0 and 2.0 slots at the lower rate. Because it holds a single M.2 socket, the motherboard does not need to split a slot into multiple x4 links — the bifurcation setting that trips people up on four-drive cards is simply not involved here.
Heatsink and pads supplied, not sold separately
An aluminium heatsink comes in the box with two thermal pads, one thick and one thin, both 70 mm long. NVMe drives throttle when they cook, and a drive sitting on a PCIe card in still air will do exactly that. Fitting the heatsink is part of the installation rather than a later purchase.
Both brackets and the tools to use them
Full-height and low-profile brackets are included, so the card fits a tower and a slim desktop without a second order. RaidSonic also supplies the screw set and a small cross-tip screwdriver, which is the part everyone else leaves out. Total card weight is 22 g, so it puts no load on the slot.

Singular Expert Insight
A single-socket adapter like this is the boring, reliable choice, and that is a compliment. The four-drive cards look better value until the motherboard turns out not to support bifurcation and three of the four drives vanish; here there is nothing to configure and nothing to check in the BIOS beyond boot support. The heatsink and the two brackets being in the box are what separate it from the bare €8 cards — a naked NVMe drive standing in a still slot will throttle within a minute of sustained writing. Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
You have a free PCIe x4 or larger slot and an M.2 NVMe drive with nowhere to go; you want the heatsink, both brackets and the screws supplied; and you would rather not depend on motherboard bifurcation.
Skip it if
Your M.2 drive is a SATA model — it will not work here. You need more than 2 TB, which is above the published limit. Or you want several drives on one card, which needs a bifurcation-capable board and a different product.
Also consider
A multi-slot M.2 carrier card if your motherboard supports PCIe bifurcation and you need two or four drives, or an M.2 SSD that already ships with its own heat spreader if the slot you are filling is on the board itself.
