Samsung Galaxy A17 — 128GB, 4GB RAM, Black

The Samsung Galaxy A17 (SM-A175FZKBEUE) is a 6.7-inch Android smartphone with 4GB of memory and 128GB of storage, in Black. undefined Samsung commits to six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security updates on it, with security support published as running to 30 September 2031.
Compatibility — check before buying:
This is the 4G model. The Galaxy A17 comes in two versions that share a name and a body: this one, SM-A175F, is LTE only and has no 5G, while SM-A176B is the 5G version. If your tariff is 5G, or you expect to keep the phone for several years on a network that is retiring 3G and pushing 5G, the difference matters. The two also differ in front glass — Samsung specifies Gorilla Glass Victus+ here and plain Victus on the 5G model. No charger is included. Samsung ships this phone with a cable and the documentation but no mains adapter, so budget for one if you do not already have a suitable USB-C charger. The second SIM slot is hybrid: you can use a second SIM or a microSD card in it, but not both at once.
Best For
✓ A large-screen phone at an entry price
✓ Anyone who wants six years of security updates on a budget handset
✓ Media and social use on a 6.7 inch AMOLED
✓ A second phone or a first phone for a teenager
✓ Buyers on a 4G tariff who do not need 5G
✓ Replacing an older phone whose updates have stopped
Key Features
A 6.7 inch Super AMOLED at 90 Hz
AMOLED rather than LCD at this price means real blacks and better outdoor contrast, and 90 Hz makes scrolling noticeably smoother than the 60 Hz panels this class used to ship with. Samsung does not publish a peak brightness figure, so we do not quote one.
50 MP main camera with OIS
Optical image stabilisation on the main camera is the specification that matters most here, and it is unusual at this level. It is what makes handheld shots in a restaurant or at dusk come out sharp rather than smeared. Alongside it sit a 5 MP ultra-wide and a 2 MP macro.
Six years of updates
Samsung commits to six OS upgrades and six years of security patches, published as running to 30 September 2031. On a phone at this price that is the single most valuable specification: it is the difference between a handset that stays safe to bank on and one that quietly stops receiving fixes.
5,000 mAh and 25 W
A 5,000 mAh battery with up to 18 hours of video playback, charging at up to 25 W over USB-C. IP54 covers dust and splashes — rain and a spilled drink, not immersion.

Singular Expert Insight
The Galaxy A17 is bought on two numbers, and they are not the ones on the front of the box. The first is six years of security updates, which Samsung publishes as running to September 2031 — on a phone at this price, that is genuinely unusual and it is the reason to choose it over a cheaper handset that stops being patched in two years. The second is OIS on the main camera, which is what makes evening photographs usable rather than blurry. What you are not getting is speed or 5G: Samsung does not even publish a chipset name for this model in Europe, only the clock speeds, and this version is LTE only. If your tariff is 5G or you want the phone to stay relevant across all six of those update years, the SM-A176B version is the same phone with 5G and we stock it. If you want to compare it against the rest of what we carry, the range is in mobile phones, and cases and films for it in phone cases.
Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
You want a large AMOLED screen, a stabilised main camera and six years of Samsung security updates at an entry price, and 4G is all your tariff needs.
Skip it if
You are on a 5G tariff or want the phone to last through its full update life on modern networks — buy the 5G version instead. Skip it too if you need wireless charging or an immersion rating.
