Samsung Galaxy A17 4G — OIS, Gorilla Glass Victus+ and six years of updates
6.7″ Super AMOLED 90 Hz50 MP with OISGorilla Glass Victus+6 OS upgrades
The SM-A175FZKBEUB is Samsung’s Galaxy A17 4G in black, with 128 GB of storage and 4 GB of RAM. It has a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED at 1080 × 2340 running at 90 Hz, a 50 MP main camera with optical image stabilisation, Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the front, a 5,000 mAh battery and IP54 protection. Samsung commits to six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security updates, published as running to 30 September 2031.
Compatibility — check before buying:
A17 or A16? The honest answer. On paper they look almost identical — same 6.7-inch Super AMOLED, same resolution, same 50 MP triple camera on paper, same 5,000 mAh battery, same IP54, same six-year update promise. Four things actually differ, and they are the whole reason to pay more:
• Optical image stabilisation (OIS) on the main camera. Samsung states “OIS: No” for the A16. This is the single visible upgrade — steadier photos in low light and noticeably steadier video.
• Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the front. Samsung publishes no glass specification at all for the A16.
• A gyroscope. The A16’s sensor list has none, which rules out AR apps and gyro-aimed games. The A17 has one.
• Lighter and thinner — 190 g and 7.5 mm against the A16’s 200 g and 7.9 mm.
Everything else is a wash. Both get six OS upgrades; the A17’s security clock simply runs about thirteen months longer.
Two things to check. This is the 4G model —
⚠️ Samsung does not publish the chipset for this phone, only “Octa-Core, 2.2 GHz + 2 GHz”. It also publishes no headline charging wattage — only a charger requirement of 10–25 W USB PD. Listings quoting “25 W fast charging” are inferring it.

SM-A175F has no 5G bands; the A17 5G is SM-A176B. Best For
✓ Photos and video in low light — OIS is the reason
✓ Anyone who keeps a phone for five or six years
✓ A large AMOLED screen without paying mid-range prices
✓ AR apps and gyro-aimed games, which the A16 cannot do
Key Features
Optical image stabilisation — the upgrade you actually see
The 50 MP main camera is stabilised, where the A16’s is not. In practice that means usable handheld shots after dark and video that does not wobble as you walk. If you are choosing between the two phones, this is the reason to take this one.
Six years of security updates
Samsung publishes six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security maintenance, running to 30 September 2031. A phone you can safely keep for most of a decade costs far less per year than a better one replaced after three.
Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the front
Published by Samsung for the A17, and not published at all for the A16. Meaningful protection against the scratches that make a two-year-old phone look tired.
90 Hz, and it is in the specification table
A small point of confidence: Samsung publishes the 90 Hz refresh rate in the A17’s own specification table, where for the A16 it appears only in a press release. Scrolling and animation feel smoother than a 60 Hz phone.
Lighter, thinner and with a gyroscope
190 g and 7.5 mm against the A16’s 200 g and 7.9 mm, plus a gyroscope the A16 lacks — so AR apps, 360° photos and gyro-aimed games work properly.

Singular Expert Insight
The A17 sits in an unusually clear position: it is the A16 with the four things people most often regret not having. Optical stabilisation is the one you notice every time you take a photo indoors or after dark, and it is genuinely absent from the A16 rather than merely weaker. The gyroscope is the one people discover later, usually when an app refuses to work. Gorilla Glass Victus+ is the one that shows up in two years, when the screen still looks new. If your budget stretches to the A17, it is the better buy for reasons that will still matter in year five — which, given six years of security updates, is a realistic thing to plan for. Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
You want a large-screen Samsung you can keep for years, and you take photos in low light — the stabilised camera is the reason to choose this over the A16.
Skip it if
You need 5G (that is SM-A176B), you need a headphone jack, or the A16 is significantly cheaper and you rarely shoot in poor light.
Also consider
The Galaxy A16 4G if the budget is tighter, or the Galaxy A17 5G (SM-A176B) if you need 5G.
