SanDisk Extreme PRO Dual Drive 2TB — 1,000 MB/s Read, 900 MB/s Write, USB-C and USB-A
1,000 MB/s read900 MB/s writeUSB-C + USB-A2TB in 23 grams
The SanDisk Extreme PRO Dual Drive is a 2TB flash drive built on solid-state flash rather than ordinary USB memory — SanDisk’s own datasheet calls it a dual solid state flash drive — and it publishes both speeds: up to 1,000 MB/s read and up to 900 MB/s write over USB 3.2 Gen 2. Part number SDDDE1-2T00-G46 is the 2TB model. It carries a USB-C connector at one end and a USB-A connector at the other in a metal body of 23 g, with password protection and 128-bit AES built in. This is the rare USB stick that performs like a small portable SSD without needing a cable.
Compatibility — check before buying:
Read this before ordering. The speed needs a USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) port at the other end; on a USB 2.0 socket the same drive collapses to a fraction of it. For phone use the phone must support USB host mode — recent Android phones do, and so do iPhone 15 and later, while an iPhone 14 or earlier is Lightning and cannot use it at all. Two things the name might mislead you about: despite “Extreme PRO”, SanDisk publishes no IP rating and no drop rating for this drive — it is fast, not rugged, and it is not the Extreme PRO Portable SSD, which is a different product entirely. And the encryption here is 128-bit AES with password protection, not the 256-bit hardware encryption of the portable SSDs. Finally, the body is 18.3 mm wide and there is no cable in the box, so on a laptop with a tight row of ports it can foul the neighbouring plug. Tell us the machine and we will confirm the port.
Best For
✓ Moving very large files between machines quickly
✓ Video and photo work carried on a keyring-sized drive
✓ Machines with only USB-C, and machines with only USB-A
✓ Carrying a working project library without a cable
✓ Anyone who wants SSD speed without SSD bulk
✓ Files that need a password on them
Key Features
1,000 read and 900 write — both published
Almost no USB flash drive publishes a write speed, because almost none has one worth publishing. This one does, and 900 MB/s is close to a portable SSD. It is what makes the drive usable for real work rather than just carrying files.
Solid-state flash, not ordinary USB memory
SanDisk’s datasheet titles this a dual solid state flash drive. The practical difference from a normal stick is sustained writing: an ordinary flash drive falls off a cliff a few gigabytes into a large transfer, and this one does not.
Two connectors, no cable needed
USB-C at one end for phones, tablets and current laptops; USB-A at the other for desktops and older machines. Nothing else to carry, and nothing to lose.
128-bit AES with password protection
Set a password and the contents cannot be read by whoever finds the drive. Worth knowing that this is 128-bit, where SanDisk’s portable SSDs publish 256-bit hardware encryption — still meaningful protection for a drive that lives in a pocket.

Singular Expert Insight
This is the drive that closes most of the gap between a USB stick and a portable SSD, and the published write speed is how you can tell: 900 MB/s is a number an ordinary flash drive cannot produce, which is why almost none of them print one. For anyone who has watched a 20 GB folder crawl onto a normal stick, that is the whole argument. Where it stops short of a real portable SSD is protection: no IP rating, no drop rating, and 128-bit rather than 256-bit encryption, so a drive that goes on location belongs in the SSD range instead. Against the rest of our USB flash drives the comparison is simple — the Ultra range reads at 400 MB/s and publishes no write speed at all, so if you write to the drive as much as you read from it, this is a different class of tool and priced accordingly.
Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
You move large files often and want SSD-class speed in something that needs no cable. 1,000 read, 900 write, both connectors, 2TB, metal body, and a password option.
Skip it if
The drive needs to survive weather or a fall — SanDisk publishes no IP or drop rating for it. Skip it too if your machine is USB 2.0, or if a security policy requires 256-bit encryption.
Also consider
An Extreme or Extreme PRO Portable SSD if the drive travels rough or needs 256-bit hardware encryption. An Ultra Dual Drive if 400 MB/s read is enough and price matters more.
