SanDisk Optimus GX PRO 8100 — 1TB PCIe 5.0 NVMe M.2 SSD
1TB · PCIe 5.0 x414,900 MB/s read600 TBWM.2 2280 · no heatsink
The SanDisk Optimus GX PRO 8100 1TB (SDSP82100TAN-000E0) is a PCIe 5.0 x4 NVMe M.2 2280 SSD rated up to 14,900 MB/s sequential read and 11,000 MB/s write, for gamers and creators building or upgrading a current desktop with a Gen5 M.2 slot.
It uses SanDisk BiCS8 TLC 3D CBA NAND with a DRAM cache and is rated for 600 TBW. This TAN version comes without a heatsink, so it fits under a motherboard M.2 cover or heatsink, or inside a laptop or small-form-factor build with enough space.
Before you order: Full Gen5 speed needs a PCIe 5.0 x4 M.2 slot (typically recent AMD AM5 or Intel LGA1700/1851 boards). In PCIe 4.0 or 3.0 slots it works but runs at that slot’s speed. No heatsink is included — Gen5 drives run hot, so use the motherboard M.2 heatsink.
What's in the Box
- 1 × SanDisk Optimus GX PRO 8100 1TB NVMe SSD, M.2 2280, without heatsink
What It Means in Practice
- On a Gen5 board this is one of the fastest consumer SSDs: game loads, large project files and video caches move noticeably faster than on Gen4.
- On a Gen4 motherboard it still works, at roughly Gen4 speeds — useful if you plan to upgrade the platform later.
- 600 TBW at 1TB is well above typical home and gaming use for the 5-year warranty period.
- SanDisk Dashboard (Windows) handles firmware updates and drive health; Acronis True Image for SanDisk is offered for cloning, to be redeemed within 90 days.
What Will Not Work
- It will not fit 2.5" SATA bays or mSATA slots, and it will not work in M.2 slots that are SATA-only.
- Note: the 1TB model writes up to 11,000 MB/s; the 14,000 MB/s write figure applies to the 2TB and 4TB capacities only.
- Without airflow or a heatsink it may throttle under long heavy writes — do not install it bare in a closed slot.
- SanDisk Dashboard does not run on macOS or Linux.

Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
The Gen5 jump matters most for large file work and future DirectStorage games; on Gen4 platforms the drive is held back by the slot. If you are moving your old SSD out, a USB SSD enclosure turns it into fast external storage.
✓ Buy it if you have a PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot with a heatsink and want top-tier 1TB speed with DRAM and 600 TBW endurance.
✕ Skip it if your board is PCIe 4.0/3.0 only or the slot has no cooling — a Gen4 drive is the better value.
→ Also consider the 2TB model for higher write speed, or the heatsink version (TAH) for boards without an M.2 cover.
