The SanDisk Optimus 5100 is an internal NVMe SSD — SanDisk’s own term — in the M.2 2280 form factor, connecting over PCIe 4.0 x4. This 4TB model is rated at up to 6900 MB/s sequential read and 6700 MB/s sequential write, with 900K random read and 1.1M random write IOPS and 1200 TBW of endurance. The board is single-sided, which matters more than it sounds: single-sided drives fit the thin M.2 slots in laptops and small-form-factor machines where a double-sided drive fouls the cover. It is a mainstream drive, sold bare, for a machine that has an M.2 slot free.
Compatibility — check before buying:
This is a bare internal drive: no enclosure, no cables, no screws, no adapter. It needs a free M.2 2280 slot and, to reach the speeds above, a PCIe 4.0 x4 connection — in a PCIe 3.0 slot it will work but negotiate down, and the figures on this page will not be met. Check your motherboard or laptop manual for which of its M.2 slots is the PCIe 4.0 one; on many boards only the first slot is.
