1TBUp to 600 MB/s readUSB 3.2 Gen 2 USB-C2 m drop protection
The SanDisk Portable Drive 1TB is a pocket-size external solid-state drive with a USB-C port and read speeds up to 600 MB/s, for students, home users and travellers who want to back up photos, carry projects or free space on a laptop, tablet or Android phone. It weighs 31.7 g and measures 75 x 45 x 10 mm, so it fits in a pocket next to a phone.
SanDisk rates it for drops of up to 2 metres and supplies a USB-C to USB-C cable. It is compatible with Windows 10 or later, macOS 13 or later, iPadOS 15 or later through the Files app, and Android 13 or later, and the SANDISK app adds automatic backup.
Before you order: Only a USB-C to USB-C cable is included. To use it with a computer that has only USB-A ports you need a USB-C to USB-A cable or adapter.

What It Means in Practice
- Copying a 10 GB folder of photos from the drive takes well under a minute at full read speed on a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port; writes are slower than reads.
- Plug straight into a USB-C iPad or Android phone to offload videos and free internal space.
- Solid-state design with no moving parts handles the knocks of a bag or pocket better than a spinning portable hard drive.
- 1TB holds roughly 200,000 phone photos or a full laptop backup for most users.
What Will Not Work
- It will not reach 600 MB/s on a USB 2.0 or USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5 Gbps) port — speed is limited by the slowest link.
- SanDisk does not publish a write speed for this model; it is lower than the read speed, so large copies to the drive take longer.
- It is not the faster SanDisk Portable SSD (800 MB/s) or Extreme series — do not pick it by mistake if you need those speeds.
- No hardware encryption or password protection is published for this model.

Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
The SanDisk Portable Drive is the everyday backup drive: small, tough and USB-C native, with enough speed for photos, documents and video projects. If you mainly need cheap capacity for archives that stay on a desk, a portable hard drive from our
external HDDs range gives more terabytes per euro.
✓ Buy it if you want a small, durable USB-C drive for laptop, tablet or phone backups.
✕ Skip it if you edit large video files directly from the drive and need 1,000 MB/s or more.
→ Also consider a SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD if you need higher read and write speeds.
