SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive Go 1TB — a terabyte in 3.5 grams, USB-C and USB-A

400 MB/s readUSB-C and USB-A1 TB3.5 grams

The SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive Go 1TB, part number SDDDC3-1T00-G46, puts a full terabyte into a swivel body weighing 3.5 grams, with a USB-C connector at one end and a USB-A connector at the other. It reads at 400 MB/s. It is the drive for someone whose phone, laptop and older desktop do not agree on which port they have, and who has more than a few files to move.

Compatibility — check before buying:
Both connectors are on the drive itself, so nothing has to be carried or adapted for a USB-C phone or a USB-A laptop. It is not for a Lightning iPhone — an iPhone 14 or earlier needs the SanDisk Phone Drive for iPhone. 1 TB is not faster than 128 GB in this line: SanDisk rates 150 MB/s at 32 GB, 300 at 64 GB and 400 MB/s from 128 GB all the way to 2 TB, so the ladder plateaus well below this size. No write speed is published at any capacity, which is worth weighing before you plan to fill a terabyte. In the box: the drive alone.

Best For

✓ Moving large amounts between a phone and a laptop
✓ Machines split between USB-C and USB-A
✓ A full media library on a keyring
✓ Backing up an Android phone entirely
✓ Carrying a project archive between sites
✓ Anyone who refuses to carry adapters

Key Features

A terabyte that weighs 3.5 grams
This is the striking part. The drive is 44 mm long and lighter than a house key, and it holds as much as a small external SSD. For carrying rather than working, nothing in this range packs more into less.

Two connectors, no adapter, no cap
USB-C for phones, tablets and modern laptops; USB-A for older machines, televisions and car stereos. The swivel protects whichever end is idle. On a two-ended drive a cap would be the first thing lost, and there is none.

400 MB/s read from 128 GB upwards
The ladder in this line runs 150 MB/s at 32 GB, 300 at 64 GB, then 400 from 128 GB to 2 TB. At 1 TB you are on the top rung but not above it — the capacity buys room, not speed, once you are past 128 GB.

Backs up a phone without a computer
On Android the drive mounts as ordinary storage and any file manager can move files to it. The SanDisk app adds automatic backup when the drive is plugged in, which at this capacity means an entire phone library fits with room over.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the 1 TB faster than the smaller versions?
Only compared with the very small ones. This line reads 150 MB/s at 32 GB and 300 at 64 GB, then 400 MB/s from 128 GB upwards — so 128 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB all read at the same 400. Buy the terabyte for space, not speed.
Should I buy this or an external SSD?
If you carry the data, this: it is pocketable, needs no cable and reads at 400 MB/s. If you work from it — editing, running software, large frequent backups — an external SSD reads several times faster and publishes a write speed, which this drive does not.
Will it work with my iPhone?
Only with an iPhone 15 or later, which use USB-C. Older iPhones have Lightning ports and this drive has no Lightning connector. For those, ask us about the SanDisk Phone Drive for iPhone.
How long will it take to fill?
We cannot tell you precisely, because SanDisk publishes no write speed for this line at any capacity. What is certain is that writing is slower than the 400 MB/s read, so a first full backup of a terabyte is something to leave running rather than wait for.
Singular Expert Insight
A terabyte at 3.5 grams is the reason to buy this drive, and the reason to be careful with it — something this small holding this much is easy to lose and easy to put through a washing machine. Treat it as a carrier rather than the only copy. On performance, the useful thing to know is that the speed ladder in this line stops at 128 GB: 512 GB and 1 TB read at exactly the same 400 MB/s, so the step up is capacity only. And as with every drive in this family, the write figure is unpublished, which at a terabyte is a real gap — if you are filling it regularly, an external SSD states both numbers. Our other USB flash drives cover smaller capacities.

Buyer’s Guide

Buy it if

You want a terabyte with both USB-C and USB-A connectors on one body, at 400 MB/s, small enough to live on a keyring and simple enough to need nothing else.

Skip it if

Your iPhone uses Lightning, or you will work from the drive rather than carry it — an external SSD is the faster tool and publishes a write speed.

Also consider

The 512 GB version reads at the same 400 MB/s for less. The Dual Drive Luxe is the all-metal version if the drive will take a beating.
