Socket Mobile DuraSled DS860 | 2D + MRZ Sled Scanner | Bluetooth 2.1 | iPhone 15 | (Scanner + Charging Dock Incl.)
The Socket Mobile DuraSled DS860 transforms an iPhone 15 into a professional barcode and identity document reader by clipping onto the back of the device and communicating via Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR. At 113.5g and just 7.8mm thick, the sled adds genuine scanning capability without meaningfully changing how the phone feels in hand. The CX4224-3306 kit ships with the DS860 sled and a single charging dock, so teams can deploy immediately without hunting for accessories.
Full-Spectrum Capture — 2D, MRZ, DotCode and OCR in One Unit
The DS860 reads every mainstream barcode symbology in a single pass: 1D linear codes, all major 2D matrix and stacked codes, postal codes, and DotCode — the high-density dot-matrix format used in track-and-trace applications for tobacco and pharmaceuticals. Beyond barcodes, the 1280 x 960 pixel sensor handles MRZ (Machine Readable Zone) on passports and travel documents, and OCR fonts A, B and E13B — removing the need for a separate passport reader at check-in and travel retail counters. This breadth of capture makes the DS860 unusually versatile compared with standard 2D sleds.
Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR — Stable Link at up to 10 Metres
Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR pairs directly with iPhone 15 via the Lightning or USB-C port connector and maintains a stable data link within a 10-metre radius. The EDR (Enhanced Data Rate) profile reduces power consumption during data transfer compared with Bluetooth 1.x, extending active scanning time. Socket Mobile SocketCam software enables the DS860 to work with any iOS app that supports a standard virtual serial port or HID keyboard wedge interface — no custom SDK required for most deployments.
11-Hour Battery with Replaceable Cell
The 700 mAh lithium-ion battery inside the DS860 supports 11 hours of active scanning or 25 hours of standby on a single charge. When battery life does become a limiting factor in multi-shift operations, the cell is user-replaceable — staff swap a depleted battery for a charged spare and continue scanning within seconds, without waiting for a full recharge cycle. The included single charging dock charges both the DS860 sled and the iPhone simultaneously through a single power connection.
Drop-Tested and Field-Ready
The DuraSled housing meets 2,500 drop cycles at 1 metre onto a metal plate per IEC test standards, reflecting the reality that handheld devices in retail, hospitality, and travel environments are dropped repeatedly over their working life. Operating temperature range of 0 to 45 C covers all practical indoor and outdoor environments from cold storage entry points to warm retail floors. The antimicrobial housing material inhibits bacterial growth on the surface between cleaning cycles.
Kit Contents — Ready Out of the Box
The CX4224-3306 kit includes the DuraSled DS860 scanner, single charging dock, wrist strap, charging cable, and quick-start guide. The charging dock charges both the sled and the paired iPhone via a single connection point, keeping the mobile station tidy at a service desk or reception counter. No additional accessories are required to begin scanning on day one.

Does the DS860 work with any iOS app, or does it require special software?
The DS860 pairs with iPhone as a standard HID keyboard wedge or virtual serial port device via Socket Mobile SocketCam. Most point-of-sale, inventory, and logistics apps that accept keyboard input will work with the DS860 without any code changes. For apps that need deeper integration, Socket Mobile provides a free CaptureSDK for iOS developers.
Can the DS860 read passport MRZ on all travel documents?
Yes. The DS860 reads MRZ (Machine Readable Zone) on ICAO 9303-compliant travel documents including passports, national ID cards, and visa stickers. It also reads OCR-A, OCR-B and MICR E13B fonts found on boarding passes, cheques and other official documents. This makes it suitable for travel retail, hotel check-in, and immigration-adjacent workflows where document verification is required alongside barcode scanning.
Is the battery replaceable by the user?
Yes. The 700 mAh battery is user-replaceable without tools. In multi-shift environments, teams can carry a spare charged battery and swap it in seconds rather than waiting for an 8-hour recharge cycle. Socket Mobile sells spare batteries separately.
What is DotCode and when would I need it?
DotCode is a 2D dot-matrix barcode used primarily in high-speed printing applications such as cigarette and tobacco track-and-trace (per EU TPD2 regulations) and pharmaceutical serialisation. Standard 2D scanners often cannot decode DotCode reliably. If your operation involves tobacco products, certain pharmaceutical items, or any goods labelled with DotCode for regulatory compliance, the DS860 handles those reads natively without a separate specialist scanner.
