STAEDTLER Noris® jumbo 119 Learner's Pencil HB — Blister of 2
Learner's pencil HBTriangular jumbo≈4 mm leadMade in Germany
The STAEDTLER Noris® jumbo 119 119 BK2 DA is a blister of two triangular jumbo learner's pencils in hardness HB, with an approx. 4 mm break-resistant lead and a soft non-slip surface, made for children who are learning to hold a pencil and write — at home, in kindergarten and in the first school years.
The thick triangular barrel guides small fingers into a relaxed grip, and the velvet-soft surface stops the pencil from slipping. STAEDTLER makes the Noris jumbo pencils in Germany from upcycled wood (recycled wood chips) with PEFC-certified wood content, and each pencil has a name field so it does not get mixed up in class. HB is the standard school hardness for writing practice.
Before you order: The jumbo barrel does not fit a standard pencil sharpener hole — you need a jumbo or double-hole sharpener (STAEDTLER recommends e.g. the Noris double-hole sharpener 512 128 for its jumbo pencils).
What's in the Box
- 2 × STAEDTLER Noris® jumbo 119 learner's pencil, hardness HB
- Blister card packaging
- No sharpener or eraser included
What It Means in Practice
- Triangular jumbo shape — encourages the correct three-finger grip for first writing exercises.
- Approx. 4 mm lead with super-bonded, break-resistant formulation — fewer broken tips when dropped or pressed hard.
- HB is the usual hardness schools ask for — clean, medium-dark lines that erase easily.
- Name field on the barrel — useful in kindergarten and school where pencils are shared.
What Will Not Work
- Standard sharpeners — the jumbo barrel needs a jumbo or double-hole sharpener.
- Thin-pencil accessories such as standard grips, caps or extenders.
- Colouring — this is a graphite pencil; STAEDTLER sells jumbo coloured pencils separately.
- A 2B line — the Noris jumbo 119 is HB only; for a softer 2B pencil choose the tradition jumbo 1285-0 BK2.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which sharpener do I need?
A jumbo or double-hole sharpener. STAEDTLER recommends double-hole sharpeners such as the Noris 512 128 for its jumbo pencils.
HB or 2B for a beginner?
2B is softer and darker and needs less pressure; HB is the standard school hardness. Many teachers start with 2B and move to HB.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
