STAEDTLER Mars comfort 556 — precision geometry compass, neon edition pink/lilac
Centre wheel settingMax circle approx. 230 mmLength 154 mmHinged plastic case
The STAEDTLER Mars comfort 556 (556 00-N2) is a precision geometry compass with spindle guide, spring-bow head and centre wheel, drawing circles up to approx. 230 mm in diameter — made for pupils, students and anyone doing geometry or technical drawing. This is the neon edition pink/lilac, supplied as one compass in a plastic case with a hinged lid.
The centre wheel is the point of the design: you set the radius by turning the wheel rather than pulling the legs apart, so the setting does not slip while you draw. Large push-buttons make it easy to handle, and the plastic/metal construction is built to survive a school bag.
Before you order: this edition contains the compass only — no spares box. If you want the spares box included, the plain 556 00 version comes with one. Same compass is also offered in neon yellow/orange (556 00-N3) and pastel pink/purple (556 00-PA2).
What's in the Box
- 1 × STAEDTLER Mars comfort 556 precision geometry compass (neon pink/lilac)
- 1 × plastic case with hinged lid
What It Means in Practice
- Set the radius with the centre wheel and it stays put — repeated arcs of the same size come out identical, which matters for geometry constructions.
- Circles from small radii up to approx. 230 mm diameter cover everything on an A4 or A3 school sheet.
- At 154 mm long it fits a normal pencil case, and the hinged case protects the needle point in the bag.
- The colour edition is cosmetic — the mechanism and specifications are the same across the Mars comfort 556 range.
What Will Not Work
- Circles larger than approx. 230 mm diameter — for bigger work you need a beam compass or an extension bar, which is not part of this product.
- No spares box is included — that comes only with the 556 00 version.
- It is a compass only — no ruler, set square or protractor is in the case.

Frequently Asked Questions
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
The Mars comfort 556 is the compass we recommend when a student keeps fighting a compass that opens up mid-circle — the centre-wheel spindle fixes exactly that. The colour editions only change the look, so pick the colour the student likes. Browse our stationery range for pencils, leads and drawing tools to go with it.
✓ Buy it if you need an accurate, school-proof compass for geometry or technical drawing up to approx. 230 mm circles.
✕ Skip it if you need very large circles or want spare parts in the box — look at the 556 00 version with spares box.
→ Also consider the STAEDTLER Mars comfort 556 in other colour editions, or Mars micro mechanical pencils for neat construction lines.
