The StarTech.com SFP10GBLRST is a 10 Gbit SFP+ transceiver for single-mode fibre, reaching up to 10 km at 1310 nm over an LC duplex connection, with digital diagnostics. It is 100% MSA uncoded, the generic version of StarTech’s 10G LR optic for the many switches, servers and NAS units that accept standard SFP+ modules. In practice, single-mode optics are the choice when a link leaves the building or runs several hundred metres: the OS2 fibre used by carriers and campus backbones carries the signal for kilometres with little loss. Before you order, confirm the fibre is single-mode at both ends and note the length and the number of patch panels on the way.
Compatibility — check before buying:
It is uncoded: Ubiquiti, D-Link, NETGEAR, Supermicro, TP-Link and similar ports take it, but Cisco, HPE/Aruba and other switches that lock out third-party optics may refuse it — StarTech sells coded versions for those, such as SFP10GLRST (Cisco) and JD094BST (HPE Comware). It is 10G only and needs single-mode fibre. Keep the dust cap on until you connect the fibre, and clean both connector ends before every mating — dirt is the most common cause of a link that will not come up. Not sure? Single-mode fibre, long reach
Built for single-mode (OS1/OS2) fibre, the type used between buildings, floors and sites. It will not run over the orange or aqua multimode fibre found in many racks — the fibre type has to match at both ends.

Digital diagnostics (DDM) let the host report temperature, laser power and received light, so a dirty connector or a failing link shows up before users call.
