The StarTech.com HB31C3A1CDPPD3 is a portable four-port USB-C hub that gives a thin laptop three USB-A ports and one USB-C port at 10 Gbps, a 4K 60Hz video output and laptop charging through a single cable, made for people who move between desks and want the hub to travel with them. The video comes out of the USB-C port, not an HDMI socket, so it feeds a USB-C monitor directly or a USB-C-to-HDMI or DisplayPort cable.
Compatibility — check before buying:
Your laptop’s USB-C port must support DP Alt Mode for the video output; a data-only USB-C port gives you the USB ports but no picture. The video leaves the hub through the downstream USB-C port — there is no HDMI or DisplayPort connector, so you need a USB-C monitor or a USB-C to HDMI / DisplayPort cable (sold separately). Laptop charging only happens if you plug your own USB-C PD charger into the PD-in port; no charger is included. The host cable is fixed and 30 cm long.

USB-C video at 4K 60Hz
The downstream USB-C port carries DisplayPort 1.4 Alt Mode video up to 3840 x 2160 at 60 Hz, alongside 12 W of charging for a phone or tablet.
Pass-through charging
Plug a USB-C PD charger of up to 100 W into the PD-in port; the hub keeps 18 W for itself and passes up to 82 W to the laptop.
Driverless, any OS
Works on Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, iPadOS and Android without software; StarTech’s Connectivity Tools are optional on Windows.
