The StarTech.com SMLCSC-OS2-8M is an 8 m single-mode duplex fibre patch cable with LC connectors on one end and SC connectors on the other, both UPC polished. It uses OS2 9/125 µm bend-insensitive fibre with a 0.3 dB insertion loss, in a yellow LSZH jacket. In practice it links an SFP port with LC optics to an older switch, media converter or patch panel with SC ports, for 1G, 10G and higher single-mode links.

Compatibility — check before buying:
Mixed connectors: LC on one end, SC on the other — it is wrong for LC-to-LC links. Both ends are UPC; it must not be used on APC (green, angled) ports. It is single-mode: it needs single-mode optics such as LR or ER at both ends, not multimode SR. Tell us both ports and we confirm.

Cleaning Keep dust caps on until connection and clean the ferrules before plugging in; dirty connectors are the most common cause of link loss.
Bending Bend insensitive to 10 mm, but avoid sharp kinks and do not step on or crush the cable.
Polarity If the link does not come up, swap the two fibres at one end (Tx to Rx).

Can I use it for LC to LC?
No. One end is LC and the other SC. For LC to LC links choose an LC-LC single-mode cable.
Does it work with multimode SFPs?
No. It is OS2 single-mode fibre. Use it with single-mode optics such as 10GBASE-LR or ER; for SR optics you need OM3/OM4 multimode cable.
Is it APC or UPC?
UPC on both ends. Do not connect it to APC (green, angled) ports.
Is it suitable for indoor runs?
Yes. The LSZH jacket produces little smoke in a fire, which suits offices, racks and public buildings.
