The StarTech.com MASFP1GBSXST is a Gigabit SFP transceiver for multimode fibre, reaching up to 550 m at 850 nm over an LC duplex connection. It is programmed as a Cisco Meraki MA-SFP-1GB-SX, so Meraki MS switches and MX security appliances accept it, and it supports digital diagnostics. In practice, multimode optics are the cheaper choice for links inside one building: most server rooms and floor risers already carry OM3 or OM4 fibre, and the module plus a short patch cord is all a port needs. Before you order, check the fibre grade printed on the cable jacket and the real length of the run, including patch panels.
Compatibility — check before buying:
It is coded for Cisco Meraki and StarTech.com lists the MS225, MS250, MS350, MX84 and MX400. For other Meraki models, or for Cisco Catalyst switches (which expect Cisco coding), send us the model first. It needs multimode fibre; for single-mode runs Meraki uses the LX10 part. Keep the dust cap on until you connect the fibre, and clean both connector ends before every mating — dirt is the most common cause of a link that will not come up. Not sure?
