The StarTech.com SFP-10G-ER-ST is a 10GBASE-ER SFP+ transceiver coded for Cisco SFP-10G-ER compatibility, sending 10 Gbps over single-mode fibre up to 40 km at 1550 nm through a duplex LC connector. It supports digital diagnostics (DDM) for monitoring light levels and temperature, draws under 1.6 W and is hot-swappable. In practice it connects buildings, sites and campus cores across long single-mode runs, in Cisco switches and routers as well as MSA-compliant equipment.

Compatibility — check before buying:
It needs single-mode fibre and an ER (1550 nm) optic at the far end — it will not link with a 1310 nm LR module or over multimode fibre. StarTech.com states it is tested for Cisco host compatibility and works in MSA-compliant switches. No fibre cable is included. Operating temperature is not published, so for outdoor cabinets ask us first. Send us the switch model and fibre distance and we confirm the optic.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will it work with a 10GBASE-LR module at the other end?
No. ER uses 1550 nm and LR uses 1310 nm, so both ends must be ER. Order two SFP-10G-ER-ST for a new link.
Does it work in non-Cisco switches?
StarTech.com states it works with MSA-compliant switches. Some vendors lock optics to their own coding; send us the switch model and we check.
Do I need an attenuator on short links?
ER optics are made for long distances. StarTech.com does not publish a minimum distance; on very short runs, tell us the length and we advise.
Is a fibre cable included?
No. Use OS2 single-mode fibre with LC connectors, such as StarTech.com LC cables.
