The StarTech.com SFPCAP10 is a pack of ten black dust covers that plug into empty SFP and SFP+ cages on switches, routers, firewalls and network cards. Made of Santoprene thermoplastic rubber (TPE), each cover seals the open port against dust and debris and has a pull tab, so you can remove it quickly when you install a transceiver. An open cage collects dust that can later end up on the transceiver contacts or the optics. In practice you fit them to every unused fibre port after installation or during a rack clean-up, and keep the spares for ports you free up later.
Compatibility — check before buying:
For empty SFP and SFP+ cages only. The covers fit the port on the switch or card, not the open end of an installed transceiver and not fibre LC connectors — those need their own dust caps. StarTech.com does not list QSFP, QSFP+ or QSFP28 ports, which are larger, so do not count on a fit there. Tell us the switch model and the port types and we check what you need.
