The StarTech.com J4859C10PKST is a pack of ten Gigabit SFP transceivers for single-mode fibre, reaching up to 10 km at 1310 nm over LC duplex connections. Each module is programmed as an HPE J4859C and supports digital diagnostics, so the pack suits campus rollouts and spare stock across HPE switches. In practice, single-mode optics are the choice when a link leaves the building or runs several hundred metres: the OS2 fibre used by carriers and campus backbones carries the signal for kilometres with little loss. Before you order, confirm the fibre is single-mode at both ends and note the length and the number of patch panels on the way.

This article is ten modules; the single module is J4859CST. The 10 km reach is for single-mode fibre. StarTech labels it single/multi mode but gives no multimode reach, so for multimode runs choose the SX J4858C10PKST. It is a 1G optic coded for HPE J4859C. Keep the dust cap on until you connect the fibre, and clean both connector ends before every mating — dirt is the most common cause of a link that will not come up. Not sure?
