The StarTech.com VDSL-LAN-EXTENDER-EU is a two-unit VDSL2 Ethernet extender kit that carries a network connection up to 1 km over a single pair of wires — existing telephone cabling or Cat5e/Cat6 — with up to 300 Mbps aggregate throughput at shorter distances. Part number VDSL-LAN-EXTENDER-EU supports VDSL2 profiles 35b/30a/17a with G.Vectoring and G.INP, and replaces the earlier 110VDSLEXTEU.

It is the practical way to reach a gatehouse, warehouse, outbuilding or old building wing where only telephone pairs exist and new Ethernet or fibre is impractical.

Compatibility note
Throughput falls with distance and cable quality: 300 Mbps is only reached on short runs, and the 1 km figure was measured on 26 AWG UTP. One unit must be set to Master and the other to Remote via the DIP switches. The units are powered by their own adapters and do not supply PoE to cameras or access points.

Can the VDSL-LAN-EXTENDER-EU use my building's existing telephone wiring?
Yes. It is designed for a single pair of wires, so a spare telephone pair or one pair of an old Cat5e/Cat6 run is enough to connect the two units.
Does it work with an ISP or third-party VDSL2 equipment?
StarTech.com states it works with third-party VDSL2 IP DSLAMs when set to CPE (Remote) mode; for a simple point-to-point link use the two units of this kit together.
Will it carry VLAN-tagged traffic to a remote switch or camera?
Yes. 802.1Q VLAN tags pass transparently across the link, which suits video surveillance, digital signage and remote office switches.
