The StarTech.com MDP2DVIMM6 is a 1.8 m Mini DisplayPort male to DVI-D male cable for connecting a Mac, Microsoft Surface Pro or PC with a Mini DisplayPort output directly to a DVI monitor or projector. It supports up to 1920 × 1200 (1080p) at 60 Hz, needs no drivers, and replaces an adapter plus a separate DVI cable.

Compatibility note: This is a passive cable, so the Mini DisplayPort output must be dual-mode (DP++), which most Macs, Surface devices and PCs are. On graphics cards with DP-only ports (common on some workstation and multi-display cards), use an active adapter instead. Thunderbolt 1/2 ports work when they carry DisplayPort.

Yes, with MacBooks that have a Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt 1/2 port. Newer MacBooks with USB-C / Thunderbolt 3 or later need a USB-C to DVI adapter instead.
Can I use it to run a 2560 × 1440 dual-link DVI monitor at full resolution?
No. It is a single-link passive cable limited to 1920 × 1200. Dual-link DVI monitors at 2560 × 1440 or 2560 × 1600 need an active dual-link adapter.
