The StarTech.com SFP10GBTST is an MSA uncoded copper SFP+ module that turns an SFP+ cage into a 10GBASE-T RJ-45 port, running at 10 Gbps over Cat6 or Cat5e cable up to 30 m. Being uncoded, it is meant for switches that accept generic modules, such as Ubiquiti, D-Link, NETGEAR, Supermicro and TP-Link. It suits connecting a nearby 10G server or NAS to a fibre-only switch. In practice, a copper module is the quickest way to connect a nearby device that only has an RJ-45 port, without buying a media converter. Keep it for short runs next to the switch and use fibre for anything further away.

Compatibility — check before buying:
It is uncoded: switches that accept only their own brand’s modules (Cisco, HPE, Arista) may reject it — for those, StarTech.com sells coded versions such as SFP10GBTCST (Cisco) and 813874B21ST (HPE). It runs at 10 Gbps only; StarTech.com does not publish 1G or multi-gig operation. Reach is 30 m and it draws 2.3 W, so check your switch’s limit on copper modules. Not sure? Frequently Asked Questions

Will it work in my Ubiquiti or NETGEAR switch?
StarTech.com lists Ubiquiti, D-Link, NETGEAR, Supermicro and TP-Link among switches that accept uncoded modules. Some switches still limit copper SFP+ modules because of heat — send us the model and we check.
Will it work in a Cisco or HPE switch?
Those usually expect their own coding and may reject an uncoded module. StarTech.com sells the Cisco-coded SFP10GBTCST and HPE-coded 813874B21ST for them.
Will it connect to a 1G or 2.5G device?
StarTech.com publishes this module for 10 Gbps only and does not list 1G, 2.5G or 5G operation. The device at the other end should have a 10GBASE-T port. If you need to connect slower devices, tell us and we suggest the right module.
Will it work in a switch from another brand?
