The StarTech.com GLCTEST is a copper SFP module that turns an SFP port into an RJ-45 port at 10, 100 or 1000 Mbps, reaching up to 100 m on Cat5e or Cat6 cable. It is programmed as a Cisco GLC-TE and rated for an industrial −40 to 85 °C range, so it suits Cisco switches in cabinets, plant rooms and on factory floors. In practice, a copper module is the quickest way to connect a nearby device that only has an RJ-45 port, without buying a media converter. Use fibre for anything beyond the copper reach shown in the table.
Compatibility — check before buying:
StarTech.com states this module is no longer compatible with Cisco Catalyst 9200 switches after a Cisco firmware update — do not order it for a C9200. It is coded as a Cisco GLC-TE. The module supports 10/100/1000, but 10/100 also depends on the host port. It has no digital diagnostics. Not sure? Send us your device model and the cable run and we check it before you order.
