StarTech.com CABCAGENUTSB — M5 Cage Nuts, 50-Pack with Installation Tool, Black
M5 thread50 cage nutsInstallation toolBlack steel
The StarTech.com CABCAGENUTSB is a pack of 50 black steel M5 cage nuts with a cage-nut installation tool, for mounting equipment in square-hole 19" or 10" server racks, cabinets and enclosures. It replaces lost or missing cage nuts when you add switches, patch panels, shelves or cable managers to a rack.
A cage nut clips into a square hole in the rack rail and provides the threaded M5 hole that the mounting screw goes into. The included tool levers the spring clips into the rail without scraped knuckles, and helps remove them again.
The all-black finish suits black racks and hides the nuts behind black equipment. Check the thread size your equipment and rack use: many European cabinets use M6, and M5 and M6 are not interchangeable.
Before you order: These are M5 nuts. Most European 19" cabinets use M6 cage nuts and screws — check the screws that came with your rack or equipment before ordering.
What's in the Box
- 50 × M5 cage nuts, black steel
- 1 × cage nut installation tool
- No screws are included
What It Means in Practice
- Each device needs one cage nut per mounting hole: usually 4 for 1U–2U equipment (2 per side).
- 50 nuts cover about 12 typical 1U or 2U devices.
- Use matching M5 screws — M6 screws will not thread into these nuts.
- Keep the tool in the rack: it makes future moves and changes much faster.
What Will Not Work
- They do not fit racks with round threaded holes or round unthreaded holes — only square-hole rails.
- They do not accept M6 screws.
- Screws are not included.
- They are not for rails with pre-tapped holes, which need screws only.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my rack uses M5 or M6?
Try an existing screw: M6 is 6 mm in diameter, M5 is 5 mm. Most European cabinets use M6; many US-style and some compact racks use M5. If unsure, send us your rack model.
Are screws included?
No, the pack contains cage nuts and the installation tool only.
Do they fit 10" racks?
Yes, if the 10" rack has square-hole rails for M5 cage nuts.
How many do I need per device?
One per mounting hole, usually four for a 1U or 2U device.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
Missing cage nuts are the most common reason a rack install stalls halfway. A 50-pack with its own tool keeps spares in the cabinet, but get the thread size right first: M5 nuts are useless in an M6 rack. Browse our
rack accessories for M6 mounting sets, shelves and cable managers.
✓ Buy it if your rack has square holes and takes M5 screws, and you want black nuts plus an installation tool.
✕ Skip it if your rack uses M6 (most European cabinets) or has threaded holes.
