The StarTech.com CABSCREWM52B is a 100-pack of M5 × 12 mm rack screws with matching square-hole cage nuts and an installation tool, for anyone mounting switches, patch panels, shelves and servers in a 19-inch or 10-inch rack or cabinet with square-hole rails.
Each screw has a pre-installed washer that protects the equipment ears and helps keep the screw tight. The cage nut clips into the square hole of the rail and provides the M5 thread; the supplied tool makes inserting and removing cage nuts quick and saves fingers.
Before you order: M5 and M6 are not interchangeable. Check which thread your rack, cage nuts or equipment use before ordering — if unsure, tell us your rack model and we will confirm.

What It Means in Practice
- One screw and one cage nut per mounting hole: a typical 1U device uses four sets, so this pack covers around 25 devices.
- Cage nuts can be moved to any square hole, so you can re-plan the rack without re-drilling or re-tapping.
- The 12 mm length suits standard device ears and shelves on typical rack rails.
- The black finish blends with black racks and equipment for a clean front view.
- Keep a spare pack on site: cage nuts and screws are the first thing to go missing during rack work.
What Will Not Work
- Racks with round holes or threaded (tapped) holes — cage nuts need square holes.
- Racks or equipment that use M6 hardware.
- Very thick rails or thick equipment brackets where 12 mm is too short to engage the thread fully.
- Mounting heavy servers without their rail kits — screws hold the front ears, they do not carry the full load.

Mismatched hardware is the most common reason a rack installation stops halfway. Standardising on one thread and keeping a 100-pack on the shelf avoids it. If your rack uses M6, choose the M6 kit instead. For shelves and panels to go with it, see our rack accessories.
