The StarTech.com AR-SFP-10G-LR-ST is a 10 Gbit SFP+ transceiver coded to work as Arista’s SFP-10G-LR, the long-reach optic for Arista switches. It runs at 1310 nm over single-mode fibre with an LC duplex connector, reaches up to 10 km and supports digital diagnostics. It suits data centres and campuses on Arista gear that need 10G links between rooms, floors or buildings. In practice, single-mode optics are the choice when a link leaves the building or runs several hundred metres: the OS2 fibre used by carriers and campus backbones carries the signal for kilometres with little loss. Before you order, confirm the fibre is single-mode at both ends and note the length and the number of patch panels on the way.
Compatibility — check before buying:
It is coded for Arista SFP-10G-LR; StarTech.com lists Arista switches and routers without naming models, so tell us yours. It needs single-mode fibre and a 10GBASE-LR module at the far end — it will not link to an 850 nm SR optic or run over multimode fibre. For short multimode runs, Arista’s SR coding is a different StarTech.com part. Keep the dust cap on until you connect the fibre, and clean both connector ends before every mating — dirt is the most common cause of a link that will not come up. Not sure? Single-mode fibre, long reach
