Targus Chill Mat with 4-Port USB 2.0 Hub — Cooling Pad for Laptops up to 17"
Up to 17"Dual 2500 RPM fans4-port USB 2.0 hub4 height levels
The Targus Chill Mat (AWE81EU) is a laptop cooling pad with two 2500 RPM fans and a built-in 4-port USB 2.0 hub, for notebooks up to 17" that run warm on a desk during long working or gaming sessions.
It doubles as a raised stand: four height levels lift the back of the laptop up to about 4" (10 cm), which works best with an external keyboard at the top setting. Power comes from one USB port on the laptop.
Before you order: The hub is USB 2.0 and powered from your laptop. Targus notes that high-power devices such as external hard drives may not get enough power from the hub — plug those directly into the laptop.
What's in the Box
- 1 × Targus Chill Mat cooling pad with integrated 4-port USB 2.0 hub
- Targus does not publish a detailed box list for this model
What It Means in Practice
- The fans draw air across the underside of the laptop, which helps notebooks whose vents are on the bottom.
- You lose one USB port on the laptop to power the mat but gain four USB 2.0 ports on the mat — handy for mouse, keyboard and receivers.
- At the highest of the four levels the laptop sits about 10 cm higher at the back; a bottom ledge stops it from sliding.
What Will Not Work
- USB 3.x speeds — the hub is USB 2.0, so fast SSDs and drives will run at USB 2.0 speed.
- Powering external hard drives reliably — use the laptop port for those.
- Laptops larger than 17".
- It does not work without a USB connection to the laptop or a powered USB port.

Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
A cooling pad with a hub suits a laptop that lives on one desk: it raises the screen, helps airflow and adds ports for keyboard and mouse. If you need monitors, Ethernet and charging through one cable as well, look at our docking stations instead.
✓ Buy it if your laptop up to 17" runs hot on the desk and you need a couple of extra USB ports for peripherals.
✕ Skip it if you need USB 3 speed, want to power external drives from the hub, or carry the laptop around daily.
→ Also consider a docking station if you also want monitor, network and charging on one cable.
Not sure it fits your laptop? Send us the laptop model and we will check size and vent position before you order.
