Targus Dual Video Mobile Dock with 140W EPR Pass-Thru (USB-C Alt Mode, Dual 4K)

USB-C DP Alt ModeDual HDMI 4K60140W pass-throughGigabit Ethernet

The Targus DOCK427GL is a compact USB-C mobile dock in silver for laptops whose USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alt Mode. Through one 10 Gbps USB-C connection it adds two HDMI 2.0 outputs for one or two monitors at 4K 60Hz, two USB-A and two USB-C ports at 10 Gbps and Gigabit Ethernet. It has no power adapter of its own: your laptop charger plugs into the dock and passes up to 140W through under USB PD 3.1 EPR. It needs no drivers and is made with up to 75% recycled material. In practice it is a small, driver-free way to give a USB-C laptop two screens, a wired network and charging at a hot desk or in a bag.

Compatibility — check before buying:
No power adapter in the box: this is a pass-through dock — you plug your laptop’s own USB-C charger into the dock’s power port and it passes up to 140W on to the laptop (140W needs a USB PD 3.1 EPR laptop and charger; otherwise up to 100W). Two extended screens need MST. Targus states dual extended video is available for MST devices only; non-MST devices such as a Mac or iPad mirror the same image on both screens. The laptop’s USB-C port must support DisplayPort Alt Mode for any video. It is not a DisplayLink dock and needs no drivers. No audio jack and no card reader. Send us the laptop model and we confirm.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will it work with my laptop?
Its USB-C port must support DisplayPort Alt Mode for video. Most recent Windows laptops, MacBooks and many Chromebooks do; data-only USB-C ports do not. Send us the model and we check.
Will a Mac show two different screens?
No. Targus states dual extended video is for MST devices only; Macs and iPads mirror the same image on both HDMI screens.
Is a power adapter included?
No. Connect your laptop’s own USB-C charger to the dock; it passes up to 140W with a PD 3.1 EPR laptop and charger, otherwise up to 100W.
What is the difference from the DOCK429GL?
The DOCK429GL has a USB4 host link, an extra video-capable USB-C output and supports a single 8K display. The DOCK427GL uses a 10 Gbps USB-C link and tops out at 4K.
Singular Expert Insight
We suggest the DOCK427GL as the practical dock for ordinary USB-C laptops: two 4K screens on Windows, Ethernet and 140W pass-through without drivers. If your laptop has USB4 or Thunderbolt, the DOCK429GL adds 8K and more bandwidth; if you do not need Ethernet, the HyperDrive Flex HD4103BUGL adds card readers.
