Send an HDMI source's picture to a display while connecting its audio to an amplifier or active-speaker system. This extractor provides an HDMI output, optical S/PDIF and four analogue channel-pair jacks. Choose the source audio format to match the output you will use: optical stereo or compressed 5.1 is different from 7.1 LPCM analogue output.

Use separate audio equipment
The four 3.5mm outputs carry front, centre/subwoofer and surround channel pairs for an amplifier or active speakers. They are not powered speaker terminals.
 
Match optical output to the format
Optical S/PDIF supports two-channel LPCM and compatible Dolby Digital/DTS compressed audio up to 5.1 channels. Do not expect 7.1 LPCM or HDMI high-bit-rate formats from the optical port.
 
Choose audio EDID
The TV, Bitstream and LPCM 7.1CH selector helps the source negotiate its audio output. Check both the source's settings and the receiver's supported format when troubleshooting missing sound.
 
Keep the video requirements explicit
The manufacturer specifies UHD 4K at 30Hz, 3D and HDCP 1.2. Confirm the source, display and content protection requirements before using it in a newer 4K installation.

No. Optical supports LPCM stereo or compatible compressed audio up to 5.1. Use the four analogue outputs with a suitable LPCM source for the listed 7.1 analogue arrangement.
Does a display have to be connected for audio extraction?
The manual states that an HDMI output connection is not required for receiving audio on the analogue and optical outputs. The HDMI source and suitable audio settings are still required.
Will it suit every modern 4K source?
