The Techly IDATA-USB-ETGIGA-3U2 adds a wired Gigabit Ethernet port and three extra USB ports to a laptop or PC through one USB-A port. It plugs in with a 14 cm USB 3.2 Type-A cable and gives you one RJ45 port with full-duplex Gigabit and three USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports at up to 5 Gbps (formerly called USB 3.0). It is powered by the USB port, so there is no power adapter. Techly lists Windows, Linux and Mac compatibility. In practice it gives an ultrabook without an RJ45 socket a stable wired connection, replaces a faulty built-in network port, and adds USB ports for a mouse, keyboard and flash drive at the same time.
Compatibility — check before buying:
Plugs into USB-A. Laptops with USB-C only need a USB-C version of this adapter or a USB-C to USB-A adapter. For full Gigabit speed use a USB 3.x port; on USB 2.0 it works, but much slower. It is bus powered, so the three USB ports share the power of one host port — external hard drives without their own power supply may not run reliably; use a powered hub for those. It has no USB-C port and no video output. Tell us your laptop and what you plan to connect and we check it.
