TERRATEC Connect C20 — USB-A to USB-C Adapter

A pocket-sized aluminium adapter that turns any free USB-A port into a USB-C port for charging and data transfer.
USB-C adapter USB-A male to USB-C female Charge and sync Aluminium housing

The TERRATEC Connect C20, article number 387822, converts a standard USB-A port into a USB-C port: the adapter plugs into the free USB-A socket of a notebook, desktop or charger and presents a USB-C socket for the cable. TERRATEC positions it for data transfer and power between MacBook, MacBook Pro, Chromebook and Windows notebooks and USB-C phones, and the body is machined from aluminium.

Before you buy The adapter takes its speed and its current from the host USB-A port, so it cannot add USB Power Delivery to a machine that does not have it: charging follows what the USB-A port supplies. TERRATEC does not publish a transfer rate for this article; the distributor lists it as USB 3.0.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which way round does the Connect C20 go?
The USB-A end is the plug: it goes into the free USB-A port on the computer or charger, and the USB-C end is the socket that your USB-C cable plugs into. It is not a USB-C to USB-A converter for the other direction.
Will it fast-charge a phone at USB-C Power Delivery speeds?
No. A USB-A host port cannot negotiate USB-C Power Delivery, so the phone charges at whatever that USB-A port supplies. For PD speeds you need a charger with a native USB-C output.
Singular Expert Insight
Useful for the desk or bag where the laptop or charger still only has USB-A and the cable is USB-C — the aluminium body holds up better than moulded plastic dongles. If you need three of them, TERRATEC sells the same adapter as the Connect C20 Set, article 387824.
✓ Buy it if you keep running into USB-A only ports and want to reuse your USB-C cables.
✗ Skip it if you need USB Power Delivery fast charging or a guaranteed 10 Gbps data rate.
→ Also consider the TERRATEC Connect C20 Set (387824) for a three-pack across desk, bag and car.
