The TP-Link TL-SG1005LP is an unmanaged 5-port Gigabit desktop switch with four IEEE 802.3af/at PoE+ ports, made for small offices, shops and homes that want to connect and power a few IP cameras, Wi-Fi access points or IP phones from one compact box.
Ports 1–4 deliver up to 30 W each, within a shared 40 W total budget; port 5 is a Gigabit uplink to your router or main switch. There is nothing to configure — plug in the cables and the switch detects which devices need power. The metal case is fanless, so it runs silently on a desk or on the wall.
Before you order: The 40 W budget is shared by all four PoE ports. One 30 W PoE+ device plus one small device fits; four PoE+ access points drawing 15–25 W each do not.

What It Means in Practice
- Typical fit: two to four IP cameras of 4–8 W each, or one Wi-Fi 6 access point plus an IP phone, with Gigabit data on every port.
- If devices together ask for more than 40 W, intelligent power management cuts power to the lowest-priority port so the others keep running — port 1 has the highest priority.
- Each PoE device can be up to 100 m away over Cat5e or better, so cameras and access points need only one cable each and no local socket.
- 802.1p/DSCP QoS and IGMP snooping work automatically, keeping voice and IPTV/multicast traffic smooth without any setup.
- Silent fanless operation makes it suitable for desks, reception areas and living rooms.
What Will Not Work
- No management: you cannot create VLANs, mirror ports or switch PoE on/off per port — choose a smart/managed PoE switch for that.
- It cannot power devices that need IEEE 802.3bt (PoE++) or passive 24 V PoE.
- It cannot feed four high-power devices at once — the total is 40 W, not 4 × 30 W.
- No SFP port and no 2.5G/10G ports.
