The TP-Link TL-SM5110-LR is a 10 Gbit SFP+ transceiver for single-mode fibre, reaching up to 10 km at 1310 nm over an LC duplex connection, with digital diagnostics. TP-Link lists it for the 10G SFP+ ports of its JetStream and Omada switches, such as the TL-SG3428X and TL-SG3428XMP, for uplinks between buildings and floors. In practice, single-mode optics are the choice when a link leaves the building or runs several hundred metres: the OS2 fibre used by carriers and campus backbones carries the signal for kilometres with little loss. Before you order, confirm the fibre is single-mode at both ends and note the length and the number of patch panels on the way.
Compatibility — check before buying:
It needs a 10G SFP+ port — TP-Link publishes no 1G mode, so it will not run in a 1G-only SFP port. It needs single-mode fibre and an LR module at the far end; for multimode runs inside a building, the TL-SM5110-SR is the short-reach version.
