Transcend JetFlash 790 128 GB — Retractable USB 3.1 Gen 1 Drive
128 GBRetractable, caplessUSB 3.1 Gen 15-year warranty
The Transcend JetFlash 790 (TS128GJF790K) is a 128 GB USB 3.1 Gen 1 flash drive in black, with a retractable slide-out connector rather than a cap and a lanyard loop on the body. It is Transcend’s plain everyday drive, backed by a five-year manufacturer term and bundled with Transcend’s own Elite management software.
Compatibility — check before buying:
Transcend publishes no transfer speed for the JetFlash 790, at 128 GB or at any capacity. The datasheet states only the interface and the standard note that speed varies by host hardware, software, usage and capacity. We are not going to print a figure the manufacturer has not published, and any MB/s number quoted elsewhere for a JF790 is that seller’s own claim. If you need a rated speed in writing, say so and we will point you at a drive that publishes one. The connector is USB Type-A; a phone or USB-C-only laptop needs an adapter, and none is included.
Best For
✓ Everyday document and photo carrying
✓ A capless drive that survives a bag or a pocket
✓ Bootable installers and recovery media
✓ Handing files to colleagues or clients
✓ Anyone who wants a five-year manufacturer term
✓ Colour-coding drives by task with the white sibling
Key Features
Retractable, nothing to lose
The connector slides out of the body and back in again. There is no cap and no hinge, so the drive that comes out of a bag is the same drive that went in. The body carries a lanyard loop for a keyring or a strap.
Transcend Elite included
Transcend bundles its own Elite data management software, which runs on Windows, macOS and Android. It handles backup and restore, folder encryption and basic cloud sync, and it also covers Transcend’s StoreJet and portable SSD ranges if you own those.
Five-year manufacturer term
Transcend publishes a five-year limited warranty for the JetFlash 790 on its own datasheet, with no regional qualifier. That is at the long end for a drive in this class and it is one of the reasons the 790 keeps selling.
Light and pocket-sized
63.6 x 21.2 x 10.6 mm and 9 g. It is a full-size drive rather than a miniature one, which makes the slider easy to work one-handed, and light enough that it does not strain a laptop port.

Singular Expert Insight
The JetFlash 790 is a straightforward drive with one unusual gap: Transcend prints no speed for it, at any capacity, anywhere. That is not a hidden fault, but it does define what this product is for. The things Transcend does put in writing are the ones that tend to matter over a few years of use — a retractable connector with nothing to lose, a lanyard loop, a five-year warranty, and Elite software that actually runs on macOS and Android rather than Windows only. For carrying documents, photos and installers, that package is good value. For a workflow built around large video files, buy a drive that publishes numbers instead. Two ordering notes: the K in this part number is the black body and the W is the white one, identical otherwise, so colour-code them by task if you keep several. And the JetFlash 790C is the USB-C model, not this one.
Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
You want a capless retractable drive with a five-year manufacturer term for everyday documents, photos and installers, and 128 GB is the right size. Black is the classic look.
Skip it if
You need a published read or write speed before you commit — Transcend gives none for this family. Skip it too if you need a USB-C connector, hardware encryption or a rugged rating.
Also consider
Transcend JetFlash 810 if you want a rubber-armoured drive for rough environments. Transcend JetFlash 790 in white (TS128GJF790W) for the identical drive in the other colour. Kingston DataTraveler Kyson 256 GB if you want double the capacity with both speeds published.
