Transcend JetFlash 790C 128 GB — USB Type-C, Capless
USB Type-C onlyCapless retractable connector9 g5-year warranty
The Transcend JetFlash 790C (TS128GJF790C) is a 128 GB flash drive with a single reversible USB Type-C connector that slides out of the body and retracts again — capless, so there is nothing to lose. Transcend specifies USB 3.2 Gen 1 at 5 Gbps, publishes it in black, and the whole drive weighs 9 grams. It is made for machines and phones that have moved to USB-C, and it plugs in either way up.
Compatibility — check before buying:
This drive has a USB-C connector and nothing else. It is not a dual-connector drive: there is no USB-A end. If your desktop, your television or your car only has full-size USB ports, this drive will not fit them without an adapter. Watch the part number carefully: Transcend also sells the JetFlash 790 — same 63.6 × 21.2 × 10.6 mm body, same 9 g, same capless slider — but that one is USB Type-A. The part numbers differ by a single trailing letter, so ordering by model name alone is how people end up with the wrong connector. Also note that Transcend publishes no read or write speed for the JetFlash 790C at any capacity, so there is no figure to compare against other drives. For a phone or tablet the device needs USB-C with OTG support.
Best For
✓ Phones and tablets with USB-C
✓ Modern laptops with no full-size USB port
✓ Moving photos and video off a device without cloud upload
✓ A drive that plugs in either way round
✓ Carrying files where no cap can be lost
✓ Travel where you have no laptop with you
Key Features
Reversible Type-C, no orientation to get wrong
A single USB-C connector that goes in either way up. On a phone in a pocket or a laptop under a desk, that removes the small daily annoyance of flipping the drive over.
Capless retractable slider
Transcend’s own description is a capless drive with a retractable Type-C connector. The plug hides inside the body when not in use, so nothing is exposed and nothing is left behind.
9 grams, USB 3.2 Gen 1
63.6 × 21.2 × 10.6 mm at 9 g on a 5 Gbps interface. Transcend publishes no MB/s figure for this model, so we state the interface rather than a number.
Transcend Elite and RecoveRx
Two free tools: Elite for backup, restore, encryption and cloud backup on Windows, macOS and Android, and RecoveRx for recovering deleted files. The 790C is the only drive in this group for which Transcend names RecoveRx.

Singular Expert Insight
The 790C is the USB-C answer to a problem people usually solve badly — they buy a USB-A drive and then live with an adapter. A reversible Type-C plug that retracts into the body is the right shape for a phone or a modern laptop, and 9 g means it does not hang off the port. The single thing to be careful about is the name. Transcend’s JetFlash 790 is the same body with a Type-A plug, one letter apart in the part number, and it will not go into your phone. As with the rest of the JetFlash line, no transfer speed is published, so what you are buying is the connector, the shape and the five-year warranty rather than a benchmark. Tell us which devices this needs to bridge and we will confirm the connector before you order.
Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
Your phone, tablet or laptop uses USB-C, you want a capless drive with nothing to lose, and 128 GB with a five-year Transcend warranty fits the job.
Skip it if
You also need to plug into full-size USB ports, you want published transfer speeds to compare, or you would rather have a drive with no moving parts.
Also consider
The Transcend JetFlash 790 if you actually need USB Type-A, or a dual-connector drive such as the Intenso Twist Line or Kingston microDuo 3C if you need both ends.
