TRENDnet TEG-MGBSX/4 — 4-Pack SFP Multi-Mode LC Modules, 1000BASE-SX, up to 550 m
4 × SFP 1000BASE-SX850 nm multimodeDuplex LCUp to 550 m
The TRENDnet TEG-MGBSX/4 is a pack of four 1000BASE-SX SFP (mini-GBIC) transceivers with duplex LC connectors, for Gigabit fibre links over multimode fibre at 850 nm up to 550 metres. Four modules cover two complete fibre links — one module at each end — between switches, buildings on the same site or floors of an office.
Each module is hot-pluggable, compliant with IEEE 802.3z and the SFP MSA, and housed in a metal enclosure. Buying the 4-pack is the practical way to equip a pair of uplinks or a small fibre backbone with identical optics.
Before you order: Gigabit (1G) multimode only. The switch must accept third-party MSA SFPs — some brands (e.g. Cisco, HPE/Aruba, Juniper) restrict non-branded optics; send us the switch model and we will check.
What's in the Box
- 4 × TRENDnet TEG-MGBSX SFP multimode LC modules

What It Means in Practice
- Connect two switches over multimode fibre up to 550 m — enough for most buildings and small campuses.
- Four modules equip two complete links, e.g. two uplinks from access switches to a core switch.
- Hot-pluggable: insert or replace a module without powering down the switch.
- Both ends of a link must be 1000BASE-SX at 850 nm — pair these modules with each other.
What Will Not Work
- Singlemode (OS1/OS2, yellow) fibre — use a 1000BASE-LX module instead.
- 10G SFP+ links — these are 1 Gbps modules; they do not run at 10G and do not support 100 Mbps.
- RJ45 copper connections — these are fibre modules.
- Switches that lock out non-branded optics.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many links does a 4-pack cover?
Two complete links — each link needs one module at each end.
Which patch cable do I need?
A multimode duplex LC-LC patch cord (OM2, OM3 or OM4) at 50/125 µm or 62.5/125 µm, matching your installed fibre.
Will they work in a TRENDnet switch?
Yes — TRENDnet SFP switches accept them. For other brands, check that the switch allows third-party MSA optics.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
For short Gigabit fibre runs inside a building, 1000BASE-SX over multimode is still the lowest-cost, most compatible choice — just make sure both ends match and the switch accepts MSA optics. Browse our
switches with SFP ports.
✓ Buy it if you need four identical Gigabit multimode SFPs for two fibre links up to 550 m.
✕ Skip it if your fibre is singlemode, the link must run at 10G, or your switch only accepts branded optics.
→ Also consider TRENDnet TEG-MGBS10 (1000BASE-LX singlemode) for longer runs, or 10G SFP+ SR modules for 10G multimode links.
Not sure your switch accepts third-party SFPs? Send us the switch model and we will check before you order.
