Tucano Sole Gravity — AGS Suspension Backpack for 17" Laptops
AGS Anti-Gravity System®17" Laptop / 16" MacBook Pro100% Recycled PET FabricZipped Expandable Side Pockets
The Tucano Sole Gravity is the 17 inch model in Tucano’s AGS collection, and the reason to look at it is that a 17 inch laptop is heavy enough for shoulder comfort to stop being a detail. AGS — Anti-Gravity System® is an elastic suspension in the shoulder straps which Tucano says conveys the sensation of carrying less weight, by letting the straps move as you walk and distributing the load between shoulders and pelvis. Inside is a double padded pocket taking a laptop and a tablet together on an Anti-Shock-System base. Both the exterior and the lining are fabric recycled from plastic, specified as 100% recycled polyethylene terephthalate. There are two front pockets at different heights, two zipped expandable side pockets, a rear security pocket, a trolley band, and a rain cover that pulls out from a hidden compartment in the base. It measures 34 x 49 x 21 cm in black.
Compatibility — check before buying:
The two size figures are separate compatibilities, not a range. Tucano publishes laptop 17 inch and, separately, MacBook Pro 16 inch (2019). The 17 inch figure is the one that applies to laptops generally.
Do not confuse this with the Marte Gravity. Marte is the 15.6 inch model at 33 x 47 x 17 cm; Sole is the 17 inch model at 34 x 49 x 21 cm. At least one retailer lists the Sole as a 15.6 inch bag, which is flatly wrong. The two also differ in a detail worth knowing: Sole’s side pockets are zipped and expandable, where Marte’s are open bottle-and-umbrella pockets.
On AGS, be clear what Tucano actually claims. It is an elastic shoulder-strap suspension designed to reduce the load felt on shoulders and back when the body is in motion. Tucano describes a sensation of less weight, and improvements to posture and stability — it does not claim, and does not publish, any actual reduction in mass or any percentage. Retailer phrases such as “Load Reduction Tech” imply a measurement that does not exist.
On the recycled claim, note its scope. Tucano states the exterior and lining are recycled from plastic, with both main and secondary fabrics composed of 100% recycled PET. That is fabric-level; zips, buckles, padding and straps are not covered and no whole-product percentage is published. No bluesign, GRS, OEKO-TEX, PETA-Approved Vegan or Blue Angel certification is published. One distributor describes the material simply as “high-density fabric”, which contradicts Tucano’s own composition statement.
Several figures are not published by Tucano: capacity in litres, weight, internal dimensions and any water-resistance rating. A 0.9 kg weight circulating on one distributor listing is not a Tucano figure.
Best For
✓ Carrying a 17 inch laptop daily, where the extra shoulder comfort earns its keep
✓ Commutes that involve real walking rather than a car park and a lift
✓ Anyone carrying a large laptop and a tablet together in one protected pocket
✓ Travellers — zipped expandable side pockets hold a bottle securely rather than letting it fall out
✓ Buyers who want recycled fabric with a rain cover included rather than sold separately
Key Features
AGS — Anti-Gravity System®
Tucano’s trademarked elastic suspension in the shoulder straps. In Tucano’s words it is designed to convey the sensation of carrying less weight, through elastic strap movement that lessens stiffness in the neck and back and balances the load between shoulders and pelvis, slowing muscle fatigue and improving stability and posture. On a 17 inch machine, which is where a backpack starts to be felt, this is the feature you are buying.
Sized for a 17 inch laptop, plus a tablet
A double internal padded pocket takes the laptop and the tablet separately, on an Anti-Shock-System base — the part of the bag that meets the ground when you set it down, and where damage actually occurs.
Zipped, expandable side pockets
Not the usual open elasticated pouches. Tucano’s side pockets here zip closed and expand, so a bottle or an umbrella stays in when the bag tips, and the profile stays slim when they are empty.
Two front pockets at different heights
Rather than one deep front cavity where everything sinks to the bottom, Sole has two front pockets set at different heights — the practical effect is that small items stay findable.
A rain cover you already own
Extractable, hidden inside the base of the bag. Most brands sell this separately or not at all, and the rain cover you did not have to remember to buy is the one that is with you.
Recycled inside and out
Exterior and lining are both specified as fabric recycled from plastic, with a composition of 100% recycled polyethylene terephthalate for main and secondary fabrics. Recycling the lining as well as the shell is less common than most bag marketing suggests.

Frequently Asked Questions
What size laptop does it take?
17 inch. Tucano separately lists the 16 inch MacBook Pro (2019) by name. These are two compatibilities rather than a range, and 17 inch is the figure that applies to laptops generally.
How is it different from the Marte Gravity?
Size, and one detail. Sole is the 17 inch model at 34 x 49 x 21 cm; Marte is 15.6 inch at 33 x 47 x 17 cm. Sole’s side pockets are zipped and expandable; Marte’s are open bottle-and-umbrella pockets. Both use the same AGS suspension and the same recycled fabrics. Note that at least one retailer lists the Sole as 15.6 inch — that is wrong.
What is AGS?
Anti-Gravity System, a Tucano trademark. An elastic suspension in the shoulder straps intended, in Tucano’s words, to convey the sensation of carrying less weight by moving with you as you walk and spreading the load between shoulders and pelvis. No percentage or measured load reduction is published.
How many litres is it, and what does it weigh?
Tucano publishes neither for this model, so we quote neither. The external dimensions are 34 x 49 x 21 cm. A 0.9 kg figure appears on one distributor listing but is not a Tucano number.
Is it waterproof?
Tucano publishes no water-resistance rating. It does include an extractable rain cover hidden inside the base, which is the practical protection for a commuter.
Is it really 100% recycled?
The fabric is. Tucano specifies both main and secondary fabrics as 100% recycled polyethylene terephthalate and states exterior and lining are recycled from plastic. Zips, buckles, padding and straps are not covered, and no whole-product percentage is published.
What warranty applies?
Tucano states a manufacturer’s warranty covers products defective under normal use, personal to the original purchaser, but publishes no duration for bags. We quote none rather than assume. Our store warranty is one year, alongside your statutory rights.
Singular Expert Insight
A 17 inch laptop is the point at which a backpack stops being a container and starts being a load. That is the honest case for the Sole Gravity: Tucano’s AGS suspension exists precisely for bags carrying enough weight that the way it sits on your shoulders matters. The straps are mounted elastically so the bag moves with your stride rather than transmitting every step directly. Tucano’s claim is carefully worded — the sensation of less weight, better posture, slower muscle fatigue — and it publishes no number. Retailers who translate this into “Load Reduction Tech” are implying a measurement that does not exist. What does exist is a comfort difference that people who walk with the bag notice and people who carry it across a car park do not.
The Sole is the larger sibling of the Marte, and the differences beyond size are small but real. The side pockets here zip and expand rather than sitting open, which means a bottle stays in when the bag tips over on a train floor. And there are two front pockets at different heights instead of one, which is a quiet solution to the perennial problem of small items migrating to the bottom of a single cavity.
Watch the size data on this model. At least one retailer lists the Sole Gravity as a 15.6 inch bag. It is not — that is the Marte. And Tucano’s two figures, 17 inch laptop and 16 inch MacBook Pro, are separate compatibilities rather than a range; the MacBook figure is there because a 16 inch MacBook Pro has its own particular dimensions, not because the bag stops at 16 inches.
The rain cover deserves a mention because it is genuinely useful and genuinely rare at this price. It is stowed in the base and pulls out. A 17 inch laptop is an expensive thing to carry through a downpour under a bag that is only water-repellent, and Tucano’s answer is to include the cover rather than sell it.
On sustainability Tucano says exactly what it can support: exterior and lining recycled from plastic, main and secondary fabrics 100% recycled PET. That covers the fabric. There is no whole-product percentage and there are no third-party certifications. One distributor describes the material as “high-density fabric”, which contradicts Tucano’s own composition — we have used Tucano’s.
The frustration with this bag is how little Tucano publishes. No litres, no weight, no internal dimensions, no water rating, and no statement on whether there is a sternum strap, a hip belt or a top handle. For a 17 inch pack, where volume and weight are exactly what a buyer wants to compare, that is a real gap. We have left those fields as not published rather than borrow numbers we cannot attribute. If one of them decides your purchase, ask and we will measure.
Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
Buy the Sole Gravity if you carry a 17 inch laptop and actually walk with it. The AGS suspension is worth most at exactly this weight. Check that 17 inch is your figure rather than the 16 inch MacBook Pro entry, and step down to the Marte Gravity if your machine is 15.6 inches. Expect a rain cover in the base and no published litre or weight figure.
Skip it if
Your laptop is 15.6 inches or smaller — the Marte Gravity is the same system in a smaller, lighter bag. Also skip it if you need a published litre capacity or weight, a stated water-resistance rating, or a hip belt and sternum strap, none of which Tucano publishes for this model.
