The Ubiquiti POE-48-24W-G is a 48V 0.5A (24W) passive PoE adapter with full Gigabit data passthrough, used to power compatible Ubiquiti airMAX, airFiber, EdgeMAX and UISP devices over the Ethernet run. Its earth-grounded design with built-in surge and clamping protection makes it the recommended way to feed outdoor radios — ESD is the leading cause of outdoor device failure. Is the POE-48-24W-G compatible with 802.3af/at devices?
Not officially. It outputs always-on passive 48V without IEEE negotiation. Even though the voltage matches, only connect devices whose spec sheet explicitly accepts 48V passive PoE; for standards-based devices use the U-POE-af/at adapters.
What is the difference between POE-48-24W and POE-48-24W-G?
Data speed: the plain model passes 10/100 Mbps only, while the -G (Gigabit) version passes 1 Gbps. Power output is identical at 48V 0.5A. For any modern Gigabit radio, choose the -G.
Does it need a special power cord?
It uses a standard detachable IEC-320 C6 ("cloverleaf") cord with earth ground — EU cords are readily available, and the ground connection should always be used for surge protection to work.
