The Ubiquiti UACC-OM-SFP28-LR is a 25 Gbit SFP28 optical module for single-mode fibre, running at 1310 nm up to 10 km over a duplex LC/UPC connection. It also runs at 10 Gbps and 1 Gbps, so it works in the SFP28, SFP+ and SFP ports of UniFi switches and gateways. It suits links between buildings or floors in a UniFi network. In practice, single-mode optics are the choice when a link leaves the building or runs several hundred metres: the OS2 fibre used by carriers and campus backbones carries the signal for kilometres with little loss. Before you order, confirm the fibre is single-mode at both ends and note the length and the number of patch panels on the way.
Compatibility — check before buying:
It needs single-mode fibre and a matching 1310 nm LR module at the far end running at the same speed; it is a duplex optic, not BiDi. In an SFP+ port it drops to 10G, in an SFP port to 1G. For multimode fibre inside a building, the UACC-OM-SFP28-SR is the short-reach version. The fibre cable is sold separately. Keep the dust cap on until you connect the fibre, and clean both connector ends before every mating — dirt is the most common cause of a link that will not come up. Not sure? Single-mode fibre, long reach
Built for single-mode (OS1/OS2) fibre, the type used between buildings, floors and sites. It will not run over the orange or aqua multimode fibre found in many racks — the fibre type has to match at both ends.
Hot-swappable
Modules plug into a live port without shutting the switch down, so a link can be added or replaced during working hours. Seat it until it clicks and use the latch to remove it.
Plan both ends together
A link only comes up when both ends use the same standard, speed and media. Order the far-end optic, the patch cord and any spares in one go and the link works on day one.
