Ubiquiti UniFi Dream Router 5G Max — 5G cloud gateway with WiFi 7, 10G SFP+ and 2.5GbE
5G up to 3.4 GbpsWiFi 7 tri-band10G SFP+ · 4x 2.5GbEUniFi OS
The Ubiquiti UniFi Dream Router 5G Max (UDR-5G-Max) is a desktop UniFi cloud gateway with a built-in 5G NR modem, tri-band WiFi 7 access point, a 10G SFP+ port and a four-port 2.5GbE switch with one PoE port. It runs the full UniFi application suite, so one tower-shaped unit handles routing, firewall, WiFi, cameras and door access for a home office, shop or small branch.
The 5G modem can be the primary internet connection where fibre is not available, or a failover link alongside a fixed line on the SFP+ or 2.5GbE WAN. Two nano-SIM slots plus eSIM give room for two operators or a data plan swap without opening the unit, and the 4.7-inch touchscreen shows status and setup on the device itself.
Before you order: You need a mobile data plan (SIM or eSIM) from an operator; the router does not include a subscription. Check your operator’s 5G coverage at the install location — indoor 5G signal decides the real speed far more than the modem’s peak figure.
What's in the Box
- 1 x UniFi Dream Router 5G Max (UDR-5G-Max) with pre-installed 64GB microSD card for NVR
- 1 x Power adapter, 54V DC 1.1A (100–240V AC input)
What It Means in Practice
- Coverage of about 160 m² from the built-in WiFi 7 radio — larger spaces add UniFi access points, which the gateway adopts and manages.
- Up to 4 WAN ports in total (default: 10G SFP+ and one 2.5GbE), so fibre ONT + 5G failover, or two fixed lines plus 5G, are possible.
- The PoE port (15.4W, 802.3af) can power one access point or camera directly; more PoE devices need a PoE switch.
- The pre-installed 64GB microSD runs UniFi Protect for a small number of cameras: Ubiquiti lists 5 HD, 2 2K or 1 4K camera.
- IDS/IPS throughput of 2.3 Gbps means threat inspection stays on without capping a typical 5G or gigabit line.
What Will Not Work
- It is not a stand-alone LTE/5G modem for another brand’s router — it is a full UniFi gateway and works best as the centre of a UniFi network.
- No built-in hard drive bay: camera recording is limited to microSD; larger camera systems need a UniFi NVR.
- Not rack-mountable — it is a desktop tower (110 x 110 x 250 mm).
- It cannot power more than one PoE device (one PoE port, 15.4W budget).

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use it with a fixed line as well as 5G?
Yes. Plug fibre or cable into the SFP+ or a 2.5GbE WAN port and use 5G as failover or load balancing — up to four WAN links in total.
Do I need a UniFi account or subscription?
Setup uses the UniFi app or web interface; the gateway runs locally with no licence fee. CyberSecure threat-signature updates are an optional paid add-on.
Which SIM do I need?
A data plan from any operator, as nano-SIM or eSIM. Business plans with a public IP make remote access and VPN simpler.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
The Dream Router 5G Max is the cleanest way to get a full UniFi network into a site where 5G is the main or backup internet link: router, firewall, WiFi 7, PoE and camera recording in one box. Measure 5G signal where it will sit before ordering, and plan extra UniFi access points for anything beyond a single floor. Browse our
routers and gateways for other UniFi gateways.
✓ Buy it if you need 5G as primary or failover internet and want a single UniFi gateway with WiFi 7 and multi-gig ports.
✕ Skip it if you have fibre only and no need for 5G, need rack mounting, or plan more than a handful of cameras.
→ Also consider A separate UniFi gateway plus PoE switch and access points for larger sites with heavier camera loads.
