The Verbatim Plectra (article 30227) is a 512 GB flash drive with a USB Type-C connector, 49 mm long and 8.5 g, finished in black. It is made for machines that no longer have a rectangular USB-A port — a current laptop, a tablet, an Android phone — and it holds half a terabyte in something the size of a car key fob. It is plain storage: no encryption, no software, nothing to set up. What you should read before ordering is the note below on speed, because Verbatim publishes only half of it.
Compatibility — check before buying:
This drive has a USB Type-C connector only. It will not fit a standard USB-A port without an adapter, so if any of your machines are older, this is the wrong article — ask us for a Type-A drive or for one with both connectors. Verbatim publishes a read speed of up to 100 MB/s and does not publish a write speed for the Plectra at any capacity. The 100 MB/s figure is also quoted identically for the 64, 128, 256 and 512 GB versions, so treat it as a family figure rather than a measurement of this drive. In practice that means a 512 GB Plectra takes a long time to fill and we cannot tell you how long. Verbatim’s own regional sites also disagree about the minimum macOS version — see the compatibility rows in the specification table. There is no encryption and no bundled software on this model.

The Plectra is bought for shape and capacity, not for performance, and that is a reasonable thing to buy. Half a terabyte at 8.5 g with a Type-C plug means no adapter on a modern laptop and no weight in a pocket, and Verbatim numbering each capacity and colour as its own article makes ordering unambiguous. The reason to read carefully is what Verbatim does not publish. There is a read figure of 100 MB/s quoted across the whole range and no write figure whatsoever. When a manufacturer publishes one number and withholds the other, the withheld one is rarely the flattering one, so plan on filling this drive slowly. Store files here and read them back; do not use it as a working disk.
