Can I use the WD20EZBX in a NAS or a RAID array?

Does SMR matter for normal desktop use?
For most desktop use, no. Writing files, storing media and reading them back behaves like any other drive. The penalty appears when you rewrite large amounts of data in place on a drive that is already close to full, which is not a typical desktop pattern.
